Trolden Limoncello

Trolden is best known for its vodka - but in the heat of summer, the distillery changes lane and brings the Mediterranean sun into the bottle. It's Danish craft that doesn't take itself too seriously.

In the middle of Kolding, Denmark, Trolden brews and distils with a taste for surprises. Among the golden whiskies and spiced spirits sits a very different bottle: a Danish limoncello that insists summer can live in a glass all year round.

    Expert's Description

Trolden Limoncello is a Danish lemon liqueur at 30% ABV, made by Trolden Distillery in Kolding from a citrus distillate infused with generous amounts of fresh lemon zest.

Only fresh, unsprayed lemons go into production, and the liqueur is gently sweetened so acidity and sweetness stay in fine balance without artificial additives. The result is a sustainably produced limoncello that nods to its Italian inspiration while being made on Danish soil with a focus on clean ingredients.

    Taste

The nose is fresh and intense with newly grated lemon zest, and the palate follows through with a clean, tangy citrus character that rolls into a round, balanced sweetness without turning cloying. The finish is light and refreshing, with a hint of summery floral sweetness.

About Trolden

Trolden is a Danish distillery best known for its vodka, but the house is also behind this fresh limoncello. Only fresh, unsprayed lemons are used, and the essential oils in the peel are steeped in alcohol using classic Italian method before being sweetened into a harmonious balance of tartness and sweetness. Because a Danish vodka distillery rarely ventures into the world of Italian liqueurs, Trolden Limoncello has become a little curiosity in the range - proof that good craft can travel across traditions.

History & Background

Trolden is a Danish distillery that has built its name around vodka but has steadily expanded the range with other spirits categories. The limoncello is an example of how smaller Danish distilleries increasingly experiment outside their core product to reach new customers. The production draws on classic Italian technique, adapted to a Danish distillery's equipment and craftsmanship. The result is a Danish take on a southern European classic.

Production & Style

The limoncello is made by steeping lemon peel in alcohol, then blending it with sugar syrup into a sweet, citrus-fresh liqueur.

Signature Style

Citrus-Fresh, Sweet, Aromatic
The flavor offers a fresh citrus character with a sweet, aromatic finish.

Did You Know?

Authentic Italian limoncello is traditionally made only from lemon peel, not the flesh, since it's the peel's essential oils that give the liqueur its characteristic flavor.
