Lochlea Whisky

Lochlea is Scotch whisky with roots in poetry: the distillery sits on the very farm where Robert Burns himself once lived and worked the land. Experiments began in the old farm buildings in 2015, but it wasn't until 2018 that real distilling got properly underway. It's a young, family-owned project, quite literally distilling on Scotland's poetic soil.

    Expert description

Lochlea 2018/2024 Adelphi Selection is a Single Highland Malt Whisky, distilled in 2018 and bottled in 2024 after 5 years of maturation at cask strength 59.2%, selected by independent bottler Adelphi Selection. The whisky comes from Lochlea, an independent, family-owned farm distillery in Ayrshire in the Lowlands, which has been distilling single malt whisky since 2018. The farm has a long agricultural history — between 1777 and 1784, Scotland's national poet Robert Burns lived here and worked the land. The McGeoch family ran a dairy operation until 2014, when they decided to convert the farm into a distillery instead. The buildings have been repurposed from their original use: the former piggery, byre and midden now house mashing, fermentation and distillation, while the old cattle sheds serve as warehouses. The barley for the whisky is grown on the distillery's own 222 acres.

About Lochlea Whisky

Lochlea Distillery is a young, independent, family-owned Scottish distillery that has patiently distilled and matured spirit over the past few years. The distillery began experimenting on an old farm in 2015, which they have since transformed into a beautiful distillery, but it wasn't until 2018 that real distillation began, resulting in releases including their First Release and Sowing Edition. For newcomers, Lochlea is one of the most exciting new names in Scotch whisky right now, while connoisseurs follow the distillery's early releases closely, precisely because they document a young house's first steps toward its own style.

History & Background

Lochlea Farm holds historical significance as the farm where Scotland's national poet Robert Burns lived and worked as a young man in the 1780s, a period that shaped much of his later poetry. When the distillery was established on that very land in 2015, the connection to Burns' legacy was a deliberate part of the project's identity, with product names referencing farming's seasons and cycles. The family behind the distillery has focused on distilling from their own cultivated crops, creating a close link between the farm's history and the whisky's taste.

Production & Style

The whisky is distilled from grain grown on the farm's own fields, giving Lochlea a close "field to bottle" connection.

Signature Style

Fresh, Grainy, Rich
The flavor offers a fresh, grainy character with a rich, earthy base.
