Roku Gin

Six botanicals, one sansho pepper, and an entire Japanese distilling philosophy behind every bottle. Roku, Japanese for "six", comes from Suntory and captures something no British London Dry has ever quite managed: a gin that unmistakably tastes of its homeland. This is gin where Japan isn't inspiration, but foundation.

About Roku Gin

Roku Gin is a Japanese gin from Suntory, made from six specific botanicals including the characteristic sansho pepper. For the newcomer, Roku offers a soft, rounded flavour that makes Japanese gin and tonic accessible and easy to enjoy; for the gin enthusiast, the interest lies in how Suntory combines classic British distilling technique with purely Japanese botanicals, creating a flavour profile impossible to mistake for European gin.

History & Background

Suntory, one of Japan's largest and oldest spirits houses, developed Roku Gin as part of its broader ambition to export Japanese distilling craft to the international market, much as the brand had previously done with its whisky. The name Roku, Japanese for "six", refers to the six specifically selected Japanese botanicals, including sansho pepper, which give the gin its distinctive, spiced character. Since launch, Roku Gin has significantly helped put Japanese gin on the world map, alongside the broader international interest in Japanese spirits that has been growing since the 2010s.

Production & Style

Juniper is joined by six Japanese botanicals, including sakura flower, sakura leaf, yuzu, sansho pepper, green tea and Japanese pepper, each distilled separately to highlight its individual character.

Signature Style

Floral, Citrusy, Elegant
A floral, slightly sweet character from sakura meets fresh yuzu citrus and a delicate spice from sansho pepper in a soft, rounded finish.

Did You Know?

Suntory distils each of the six Japanese botanicals separately before blending them, a method that gives more precise control over each flavour component than a single joint distillation.
