Bristol Classic Rum

Bristol Classic is named after a harbour city that has lived off rum for centuries — today that legacy continues in bottles from Bristol Spirits, where every cask is bottled individually and without dressing up. This is rum for those who want to taste the Caribbean without sweetness and filtration in the way.

  • Bottle of Bristol Classic Caribbean Collection Trinidad rum
    Item no.: 22227865416-61

Trinidad's tropical climate does nothing by halves. Bristol Classic has captured that intensity in a bottle that tastes more of bourbon oak than many expect from Caribbean rum.

    Expert description

Bristol Classic Caribbean Collection Trinidad is a Rum from Trinidad, column distilled from molasses and matured for an average of 4 years in ex-bourbon casks, bottled at 40%.

The rum is released by the English bottler Bristol Classic Rum, known for sourcing single-distillery rum from across the Caribbean and releasing it under its Caribbean Collection series. This expression clearly shows Trinidad's tropical climate and cask handling, with a pronounced American oak character giving the bottle an almost bourbon-like edge, while retaining a light, clean palate.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Ripe banana, vanilla, toasted coconut and spiced caramel, with a hint of dried citrus, nutmeg and light oak char.

    Palate

Sweet vanilla, a touch of chocolate and a good deal of zesty, spiced American oak that lends a bourbon-esque edge.

    Finish

Light and clean, with fruit and spice fading gently.

  • Bottle of Bristol Classic Finest Mauritius Cane Juice Rhum
    Item no.: 22227865416-65

Mauritius is better known for its sugarcane fields than its rum exports. This bottle shows why that should change.

    Expert description

Bristol Classic Finest Mauritius Cane Juice Rhum is a Rhum Agricole from Mauritius, distilled from fresh sugarcane juice and bottled unaged at 43%.

The rum is distilled at La Bourdonnais Estate on the north of Mauritius and released by the English bottler Bristol Classic Rum, known for sourcing single-distillery rum from around the world. Because it is distilled from fresh sugarcane juice rather than molasses and remains unaged, the style is vivid and clean, with a vegetal character sitting somewhere between classic agricole rum and smoky mezcal, rather than the more fruity, aromatic agricole rums often found from the Caribbean.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Green apples, lemon, grass and white pepper, with muscovado sugar, new leather and dried apple slices.

    Palate

Light and vegetal, with cooked cane juice, mild spice and a touch of leather.

    Finish

Lingering muscovado sugar and peppery spice.

Mauritius has a long tradition of sugarcane cultivation but produces surprisingly little rum compared to its neighbour Réunion, making bottles like this a rare opportunity to taste the island's pure, agricole-based rum style.

  • Diamond Distillery 2003/2015 Bristol Classic Guyana Rum bottle
    Item no.: 22227865443-1511

Guyana's Demerara River has for centuries delivered rum with a heavy, earthy character. Bristol Spirits captured a single distillate from the Diamond distillery in 2003 and let it mature for the best part of a decade before bottling it without embellishment.

    Expert Description

Diamond Distillery 2003/2015 Bristol Classic is a Guyana Rum distilled on column stills and bottled at 43%.

The rum was distilled in 2003 at the Diamond distillery, owned by Demerara Distillers Limited on the east bank of the Demerara River, and cask aged until 2015, when it was bottled by the independent English bottler Bristol Spirits under the Bristol Classic Rum label. The rum is molasses-based and column distilled, a style that offers a cleaner, more traditional expression than the heavy pot still rums Guyana is also known for.

The twelve years of ageing, partly in Guyana and partly after transport to England, has given the rum a balanced character, where fruit and wood meet without either dominating.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Orange and grapefruit meet laurel and verbena, with a hint of herbs in the background.

    Palate

Soft and balanced with ripe citrus, light sweetness and an earthy oak character.

    Finish

Medium length and dry, where the citrus fades out alongside a hint of herbs and oak.

Thirty years in cask is rare in the world of rum. This bottle is testament to what time can do to a distillate from one of Guyana's legendary stills.

Enmore 1988/2018 30 Years Sherry Finish is a Rum from Guyana, distilled on the Enmore still, matured 30 years and finished in sherry casks, bottled by Bristol Classic Rum at 46.5%.

About Bristol Classic Rum

Bristol Classic Rum is released by Bristol Spirits, an independent bottler founded by John Barrett in the English port city of Bristol, historically one of Britain's key arrival ports for colonial rum. The firm specialises in single-cask bottlings from distilleries across the Caribbean and South America, including Jamaica, Guyana and Trinidad, usually unfiltered and without added sugar or colouring. Collectors are drawn to the rare, high-ester Jamaican rums and closed distilleries in particular, while newcomers get an authentic, unpolished taste of rum as it was before modern marketing styles took over.

History & Background

Bristol Spirits was founded in the early 1990s by John Barrett, who built the firm on Bristol's long history as an arrival port for rum from Britain's Caribbean colonies. The city once housed several rum warehouses and blending houses, and the name Bristol Classic is a direct tribute to that legacy. The firm has since built a reputation for seeking out small, often-overlooked distilleries and bottling their rum single-cask, long before independent rum bottling became a recognised category in its own right.

History & Background

The house was founded in 1993 and has built a solid reputation by focusing on authentic, unadulterated rums from respected distilleries.

Production & Style

The rum is distilled at the original distilleries and then imported to the UK, where Bristol Classic handles aging and bottling.

Signature Style

Authentic, Varied, Clean
The flavor varies by source distillery, but shares an unadulterated, authentic character.
