Copenhagen Distillery Aquavit

Copenhagen Distillery is the experimental Copenhagen-based distillery that refuses to stick to a single category – gin, aquavit, liqueur and whisky all come out of the same curious stills. This is urban Danish spirits production, where tradition is a starting point rather than a straitjacket. Every series is an attempt to do something no other Danish distillery has tried.

  • Bottle of Copenhagen Distillery Long Pepper Aquavit with minimalist white label
    Item no.: 2222786539-25

Long pepper carries a quiet hum that slowly wakes in the glass — a spiced pulse from distant trade routes, met by Copenhagen craftsmanship. The aroma unfolds like low autumn light over the Øresund, warm and unexpected all at once.

    The Expert's Description

Copenhagen Distillery Long Pepper is a Danish aquavit bottled at 41% ABV.

The bottle comes from Copenhagen Distillery, an experimental craft distillery founded in 2014 in the Danish capital, working with organically certified wheat and barley in its spirits. The Long Pepper expression builds on classic aquavit made with dill, but adds an extra layer of exotic character through long pepper (Piper longum) — a spice that reached the Nordics via ancient trade routes long before round pepper became common in European kitchens.

The result is a soft, fruity aquavit where the anise-like sweetness of dill meets the mild, warm spice of long pepper, while hints of lemon zest and black tea add depth and freshness. It is an aquavit that respects tradition while still moving a step further.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Gentle and aromatic with dill, a touch of lemon zest and a whisper of black tea that gives the nose a light, herbal character.

    Palate

Round and fruity with the anise-like sweetness of dill, followed by the warm, mildly peppery spice of long pepper.

    Finish

Medium-length and spiced, with lingering warmth from the pepper and a final touch of citrus.

About Copenhagen Distillery

Copenhagen Distillery is a Danish distillery in Copenhagen, producing aquavit rooted in the classic Danish tradition.

History & Background

Copenhagen Distillery is one of the smaller craft distilleries that have sprung up in and around Copenhagen as part of the Danish micro-distillery wave that really took off in the 2010s. The aquavit is made in small batches with a focus on local or Nordic botanicals, a style that deliberately sets it apart from large, established aquavit brands like Aalborg. Distilleries of this kind typically sell directly to Copenhagen's bar and restaurant scene alongside retail sales.

Production & Style

The aquavit is distilled from herbs and spices, including caraway and dill, giving it its classic character.

Signature Style

Spicy, Caraway-Forward, Fresh
The flavor offers a spicy, caraway-forward character with a fresh finish.
