The King of Denmark

The name The King of Denmark allegedly originates from the 1600s, when Christian V suffered a sore throat and was prescribed anise oil. Aniseed oil tasted too strong for the king, so his personal physician mixed the aniseed oil in a sugar mixture with beetroot juice, which the king gladly ate and recovered.

The man behind the original opskrift for the King of Denmark cocktail is innovative chef Casper Sobczyk.

How to make it:

  • Chill a martini glass with ice.

About Snaps Bornholm:

Special Edition brings together the Danish summer in a unique and sensuous taste experience, and gets its beautiful pink color from sun-ripened rhubarb. This sweet schnapps with a hint of star anise can be drunk on its own, mixed into desserts or used as part of the signature cocktail: The King of Denmark.

Developed in collaboration with selected Nordic chefs and bartenders, the Special Edition series is a modern tribute to the classic schnapps. With Special Edition, Bornholm Spirits has created an organic schnapps that can be enjoyed by everyone and can be used in both food and cocktails.
