About Jim Beam

Jim Beam is the backbone of Kentucky bourbon, a whiskey that's both the everyday go-to dram and a serious benchmark for what American whiskey should taste like. The Beam family has distilled since 1795, passing the knowledge down generation to generation, most recently through Fred Noe and Freddie Noe, who both carry the tradition forward with the same recipe, polished by time and experience.

History & Background

The brand is named after Colonel James B. Beam, who rebuilt the family distillery after Prohibition ended in 1933 and had it back in production in record time. Today Jim Beam is owned by the Japanese spirits company Suntory, but production still takes place in Clermont and Boston, Kentucky, with the Beam family still at the helm as master distillers.

Production & Style

The bourbon is distilled from a corn-dominated mash bill, supplemented with rye and malted barley, and double-distilled to remove impurities. It's aged in new, charred American oak barrels for at least four years, where the charred wood draws out natural sweetness and vanilla character.

During Prohibition from 1920 to 1933, a nearby family branch kept operations partly alive through a medicinal whiskey permit, after which James B. Beam himself rebuilt the distillery from scratch in just 120 days.
