Silvio Carta was founded in the early 1950s in Baratili San Pietro on Sardinia by Silvio Carta himself, and today the company is run by his son Elio Carta, who has led it since 1972. The company's own distillery was built in 1982, and the name Limonello was chosen to mark Silvio Carta's own take on the classic lemon liqueur. The lemons are hand-picked, and the peel is infused in neutral spirit from sugar beet molasses within 24 hours of harvest.
