Alkkemist Gin is a Spanish gin triple-distilled on a grain spirit base, bottled at 40%.
The gin is built on as many as 21 botanicals, including muscat grape, orange and lemon peel, rose petals, samphire, fennel, thyme and mint, plus sage, verbena, chamomile, rock tea, angelica, cardamom and pennyroyal.
The muscat grape gives the gin a floral, almost fruit-wine-like touch, while the samphire adds a subtle saline undertone reminiscent of the Mediterranean coast.
What makes Alkkemist unique is that it is only distilled at each full moon, meaning just twelve distillations a year.
Tasting notes
Nose
The nose is lemon peel, lavender, apple blossom and a touch of fennel, with menthol, spices and pine.
Palate
The palate offers rich fruit with grape sweetness, clove, peppery juniper and a floral rose nuance.
Finish
The finish is softly saline from samphire and juicy orange.
