Greenall's Gin

England's oldest gin distillery has distilled continuously since 1761 – through two world wars, a devastating fire in 2005, and changing owners. Greenall's survived it all, not least thanks to Joanne Moore, the world's only female master distiller in premium gin.

  • Bottle of Greenall's Original London Dry Gin from Warrington England
    Item no.: 2222786539-1085

In 1761, Thomas Dakin built a distillery on Bridge Street in Warrington. Over 260 years later, gin is still being distilled on that same site, making it the oldest continuously operating gin distillery in England.

    Expert's description

Greenall's Original London Dry Gin is an English London Dry Gin distilled from 100% British wheat and bottled at 37.5%.

The distillery changed hands in 1860, when Gilbert and John Greenall took over the lease of Dakin's distillery, and the Greenall family name has remained on the bottle ever since.

Today the gin is distilled by G&J Distillers in Birchwood near Warrington, where eight hand-picked botanicals, including juniper, coriander seed and citrus peels, create a clean, balanced London Dry character.

The recipe is overseen by Master Distiller Joanne Moore, one of the most celebrated female distillers in the British gin industry, and her style still shapes production at the distillery today.

About Greenall's

Greenall's is an English gin from Warrington, made at England's oldest gin distillery. For newcomers it's a classic, spicy London dry gin that has defined the standard for British gin for generations; for collectors it's notable that the distillery is today Britain's largest producer of quality gin, led by Joanne Moore, the world's only female master distiller in premium gin, who unites centuries of tradition with innovative products.

History & Background

The distillery in Warrington was founded in 1761 and has operated under the Greenall family name ever since, making it a cornerstone of British gin history that rivals are still measured against. Through the 19th and 20th centuries the house survived two world wars and changing ownership, and in 2005 the site was ravaged by a major fire that threatened to end over 240 years of continuous production. The distillery was nonetheless rebuilt, and today Greenall's is not only Britain's largest producer of quality gin but also home to Joanne Moore, who has led production since 1998 as the world's only female master distiller in premium gin.

Production & Style

The gin is distilled with juniper and classic London Dry botanicals using a traditional English method.
