Widmer Brothers Brewing was founded in 1984 by brothers Kurt and Rob Widmer in Portland, Oregon, at a time when the American craft beer movement was still in its infancy. The brothers developed an American take on German wheat beer, which later became known as American Hefeweizen and has inspired countless breweries since. Widmer Brothers is today regarded as one of the key pioneers behind Portland's status as one of America's leading beer cities. The brewery later merged with Redhook, but the name lives on as one of the historic American craft names.
