The Speyside distillery was launched by Janet Sheed Roberts, William Grant's granddaughter, in 1990, and has been used solely to produce malt whisky for blends up until now. Kininvie 17 Year Old is distilled in small batches. Aged in a mixture of American oak hogsheads and Sherry butts, Kininvie 17 Year Old carries an abv of 42.6% and delivers floral notes of orange blossom, honey, vanilla and orange peel. Each bottle is printed with the bottle and batch number. Batch 001 - Release 2013The first official Kininvie bottling - a 23 year old 35cl Taiwan exclusive called Batch Number One, released in October 2013 The woman behind the distillery - Kininvie Janet Sheed Roberts, née Gordon, is the granddaughter of Glenfi ddich founder William Grant. She passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, April 6, 2012, at the age of 110. Janet Sheed Roberts was Scotland's oldest woman and William Grants last living granddaughter. Until her death she lived in her home overlooking the Glenfi ddich distillery. She attributed her advanced age to "hard work and laughter", and Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond described her as an elderly "wise" woman. Still involved Although Janet Sheed Roberts was never directly involved in the running of the distilleries, she was involved in many things right up to the end. She attended award ceremonies and openings. Among other things, it was Janet Sheed Roberts who opened Dufftown's newest distillery back in 1990, KininvieKininvie and Janet's home - and it is precisely this connection that has made the very few and small bottlings of Kininvie, and thus extremely rare, all named after Janet Sheed Roberts' home; Hazelwood (the bottles are called Hazelwood Reserve). While two bottlings have only been for employees of William Grant & Sons, the third (and smaller bottling) was for Heathrow and Aberdeen airports.
