97 points from both Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast isn't everyday for a rum. Centuria is proof of what Varela Hermanos can do when the family takes its time.
Expert description
Ron Abuelo Centuria Reserva de la Familia is a Rum from Panama, blended in a solera system from rums up to 30 years old, bottled at 40%.
The rum comes from Varela Hermanos, which has distilled rum in Panama since 1908. Centuria is the house's undisputed flagship, a solera blend where older and younger rum is continuously blended through stacked casks, giving a depth and consistency that is hard to achieve with single-vintage maturation. The name Centuria, derived from the Latin word for hundred, honours the family's over hundred-year history in the rum business.
