Rum Categories

Are you, like us at Whisky.dk, absolutely crazy about rum? Then this page is just for you. On this page you can find a universe of rum. We have a great passion for rum and we really want to share it with you.

Rum is made from cane sugar and water. This mixture is fermented to form a liquid containing 8-10% alcohol. It is then distilled to an alcohol percentage of up to 90% and then stored on oak barrels. Once the rum has been stored, it is diluted to 40-43% alcohol and filled into bottles.

Below you can see our large selection of rum. We have many different brands and variants. By clicking on the categories below, you see different kinds of rum variants.

  • Bottle of Great Dane 15 Year Skotlander Danish rum
    Item no.: 059763-6167849

Fifteen years in ex-bourbon casks has given this Danish rum a depth rarely found outside the Caribbean - peach, pineapple and coconut in a glass brewed in an old slaughterhouse in Jammerbugten.

    Expert description

Great Dane 15 Year is a Dark Sweet Rum from Skotlander, matured in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 42%.

The Great Dane series is Skotlander's flagship, and the 15-year release represents the longest maturation in the range. The rum has been allowed to mature for fifteen years in ex-bourbon casks, where time has created a harmonious balance of sweetness, oak and tropical fruit. The lightly charred, sweet bourbon barrels give the rum its characteristic depth and a long, warm finish.

Behind Great Dane is Skotlander Spirits, a family-run company that since 2013 has produced award-winning rum, gin and liqueur in an old slaughterhouse in Pandrup in Jammerbugten. Great Dane has won several international awards and has been named one of the world's best rums.

  • Habitation St. Etienne 2002 Sherry Finish Martinique Rhum Agricole bottle
    Item no.: 222555-7554

Where HSE 1998 shows rhum agricole in its pure form, this 2002 vintage adds an extra layer, as the classic Martinique style meets a finishing period in sherry casks.

    Expert Description

Habitation St. Etienne 2002 Sherry Finish is a Martinique Rhum Agricole, finished in sherry casks, distilled in 2002 and bottled at 45%.

The rum is produced by Habitation Saint-Étienne (HSE), one of the leading AOC Martinique producers, known for distilling directly from fresh sugarcane juice. This 2002 vintage has undergone an extra finishing period in sherry casks, adding a sweet, nutty dimension to the classic, aromatic rhum agricole style. The sherry casks complement the fresh, grassy base with a layer of dried fruit and spice that sets this release apart from HSE's purer single cask editions.

The result is a full-bodied, complex rum, where the freshness of the sugarcane meets sherry sweetness and nutty notes in a long, rounded finish.

    Item no.: 2225554-774

    Expert Description

Rum Nation Peruano 8 Year is a Peru Rum aged for 8 years and bottled at 42%.

The rum is selected and bottled by Rum Nation, the Italian bottling house specialising in single origin rum from the Caribbean and the wider rum belt. Peruano 8 Year is part of the 2017 release and offers a rare glimpse into Peruvian rum production, which is far less widespread internationally than rum from the classic Caribbean nations. The eight years of ageing give the rum a rounded, approachable character that sets it apart from the more powerful styles of Jamaica or Guyana.

  • Rum Nation Barbados 2000 Limited Edition 8 Year Single Domaine Rum bottle
    Item no.: 2229-1106-1972

Rum Nation has been bringing home some of the world's most interesting rum casks to Italy since 1999, and this Barbadian Single Domaine release captures a vintage that today ranks among the house's older treasures.

    Expert Description

Rum Nation Barbados 2000 Limited Edition 8 Year Single Domaine is a Barbados Rum from a single source, aged for 8 years and bottled at 43%.

The rum is released by Rum Nation, the Italian independent bottler that has, since the late 1990s, specialised in seeking out and maturing rum from single countries and domaines rather than blending across origins. The Single Domaine designation means the rum comes exclusively from one particular source in Barbados, with no addition from other distillates. The rum was distilled in 2000 and aged for 8 years as a limited release, long before Rum Nation's later, better-known Barbados series.

The result is a classic Barbadian rum, where soft caramel and tropical fruit meet a lightly spiced, rounded finish.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Caramel, tropical fruit and a touch of vanilla.

    Palate

Round and soft with brown sugar, banana and light spice.

  • Trolden The Stokers Rum Lindely Nattefrost Edition Danish Rum bottle
    Item no.: 2227-88545

Eight kilometres from Trolden Distillery in Kolding lies the Lindely vineyard, where grapes are frozen to make a Danish ice wine called Nattefrost, and it is the emptied Nattefrost casks that give this rum its name.

    Expert Description

Trolden The Stokers Rum Lindely Nattefrost Edition is a Danish Rum finished in ice wine casks, bottled at 58%.

The rum comes from Trolden Destilleri & Bryghus in Kolding, where its own molasses-based rum was filled into casks that previously held Lindely vineyard's Nattefrost, a Danish ice wine made from grapes that are picked and pressed, then frozen for four weeks and slowly thawed to concentrate their sweetness. After two years of ageing in bourbon casks, the rum spent a further year in these ice wine casks, adding a sweet, fruity dimension on top of the powerful, molasses-driven base character. The range is named The Stokers, a nod to the fire-tenders who traditionally kept the distillation process running.

The result is a powerful yet sweet-toned rum, where molasses and oak meet a fruity, almost wine-like finish from the ice wine casks.

    Item no.: 222275-864

Eight years under the tropical sun, four more years in former port wine casks – IPS 2 is Infernal's journey through two maturation climates in one bottle.

    Expert Description

Infernal Rum IPS 2 Barbados is a Barbadian Rum personally selected by Infernal, bottled at 52%.

IPS 2 continues the Infernal Personal Selection series, where Lina Rafn and Paw Lagermann personally choose the casks that live up to their taste. This edition comes from St. Philip in Barbados and underwent an unusual maturation process: first 8 years in ex-bourbon casks under the tropical sun, then a further 4 years in American oak casks that previously held Tawny Port. The result is a rum that unites tropical richness with elegant port wine notes, a combination rarely found outside the finest collections.

Named after the Cueva people, first encountered by Spanish conquerors in Panama in 1501, this youngest edition in the series opens a journey through the house's solera-aged expressions.

    Expert Description

Ron Cueva 1501 Sistema 8 Solera is a Panama Rum aged via the solera method for a minimum of 8 years and bottled at 40%.

Sistema 8 is the youngest and most approachable edition in the series, which also includes 12, 18, 25 and 33 year variants.

    Item no.: 22278-66635

Spirited Union calls itself the world's first botanical rum house, and XO Colombia is an example of their signature method, where an origin rum gains an entirely new layer of character in Amsterdam.

    Expert Description

Spirited Union XO Colombia is a Colombia Rum, finished in coffee-seasoned casks, bottled at 40.5%.

The rum comes from Valle del Cauca in Colombia, where it is distilled on column stills from both sugarcane juice and molasses and matures tropically for up to 3 years in ex-bourbon casks. It is then shipped to Spirited Union's own distillery in Amsterdam, where it is finished for up to 2 years in tailor-made casks pre-conditioned with roasted coffee and rum. This "continental ageing" method gives the rum a subtle yet distinct coffee character that sets it apart from traditional, unflavoured Colombian rum.

  • Mocha brown gift box with the 24 Days of Rum Mocha Edition calendar
    Item no.: 2222444-6655

A mocha-brown box, 24 doors and a world that reaches well beyond the Caribbean. Uganda, South Africa, India and Fiji grow sugar cane too, and they are what makes December interesting here. Two glasses sit in the box, because this calendar is built for two.

    The expert's description

24 Days of Rum Mocha Edition - Rum Advent Calendar filled with 24 x 2 cl is a rum advent calendar holding 24 different rums in 2 cl miniature bottles at strengths from 38% to 54%, averaging around 41%, with two Spey Dram glasses in the box.

The Mocha Edition sets itself apart first and foremost through its line-up. Where rum means the Caribbean to most people, this edition pulls towards Africa, Asia and the Pacific. Uganda, South Africa, India, Indonesia, Fiji and Mexico stand alongside classics from Martinique, El Salvador, Trinidad and Belize, and it is exactly that mix which makes the calendar hard to second-guess.

The styles are as scattered as the countries. There is rum distilled from fresh cane juice in India, a Mexican rum with twenty years behind it, spiced rum from Scotland and a couple of rum-based spirit drinks, one of them built on orange. Because strength swings from 38% to 54%, both weight and punch shift noticeably from one day to the next.

With two Spey Dram glasses and a tasting notes folder in the box, the calendar is made to be shared and to be written down as you go. The running order stays hidden, but the full list of all 24 bottles sits under the Description tab. For corporate gifting the shop takes orders from six calendars upwards at ordre@whisky.dk.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dried fruit and coconut first, with vanilla and pale caramel behind. The African and Asian bottles pull in another direction with green cane juice, ripe banana and a trace of spice, and a couple of doors smell clearly of orange peel.

    Palate

The breadth shows up most on the tongue. The aged rums are round and cask-sweet with raisin, dried apricot and toasted oak, while the Indian cane juice rum is tight and juicy with sweetness straight from the cane. The spiced bottling lays cinnamon and nutmeg over the top, and the strongest at around 54% deliver real pressure.

    Finish

From short and fresh to long and dry. The oldest hang on with dark syrup, tobacco and dry wood, while the youngest let go faster on cane and citrus peel.

  • Tanduay Overproof Rum Philippine Rum bottle
    Item no.: 22227865-77415

Crowned overall "Taste Master" at The Spirits Business Asian Spirits Masters 2024, this powerful 101-proof rum proves that high strength doesn't have to come at the expense of finesse.

    Expert Description

Tanduay Overproof is a Philippine Rum, a blend of column and pot still distillates aged a minimum of 3 years in once-used American oak barrels, bottled at 50.5%.

The rum is produced by Tanduay Distillers by combining column-distilled and pot still-distilled rums, which are then aged for at least three years in previously used American oak barrels. The high strength of 50.5%, equivalent to 101 proof, gives the rum extra intensity without compromising the smoothness the brand is known for. Overproof won the "Master Medal" and the overall "Taste Master" title at The Spirits Business Asian Spirits Masters 2024, the competition's highest accolade.

The result is a powerful, full-bodied rum, where toasted pineapple and banana meet sweet vanilla.

Intense vanilla, caramel, oak and dark sugar.

    Palate

Powerful and full-bodied with toasted pineapple, banana and sweet vanilla.

  • Tanduay 10 Year Philippine Rum bottle
    Item no.: 22227865-77414

Ten years of ageing in former bourbon barrels gives this dark Philippine rum a depth of dark chocolate and raisin, far removed from the light style known from Tanduay's white editions.

    Expert Description

Tanduay 10 Year is a Philippine Rum aged a minimum of 10 years in ex-bourbon American oak barrels and bottled at 40%.

The rum is produced by Tanduay Distillers, the Philippine house with roots dating back to 1854, as part of the broader range alongside the house's white and spiced editions. The dark amber colour and the ten years of ageing give Tanduay 10 Year a markedly more complex profile than the brand's younger rums, with clear influence from the former bourbon barrels. The edition has won a gold medal at the World Spirits Competition as well as awards at both the PR%F Awards and The Spirits Business Asian Masters 2024.

The result is a round, full-bodied rum, where dark chocolate and toasted oak meet dried fruit.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Tropical dried fruits, toasted oak, vanilla and caramel.

    Palate

Smooth and round with caramel, vanilla and dried fruit.

    Finish

Woody spice, raisin and dark chocolate.
