Rum Categories

Are you, like us at Whisky.dk, absolutely crazy about rum? Then this page is just for you. On this page you can find a universe of rum. We have a great passion for rum and we really want to share it with you.

Rum is made from cane sugar and water. This mixture is fermented to form a liquid containing 8-10% alcohol. It is then distilled to an alcohol percentage of up to 90% and then stored on oak barrels. Once the rum has been stored, it is diluted to 40-43% alcohol and filled into bottles.

Below you can see our large selection of rum. We have many different brands and variants. By clicking on the categories below, you see different kinds of rum variants.

  • Tanduay Rum Silver White Rum bottle
    Item no.: 22227865-77411

With a 99% market share in the Philippine rum category, Tanduay is the world's best-selling rum, and this white edition shows why the brand has won such a large following.

    Expert Description

Tanduay Rum Silver is a Philippine Rum aged up to 5 years in ex-bourbon barrels and filtered to a white colour, bottled at 40%.

The rum is distilled by Tanduay Distillers, which traces its roots back to Hagonoy in Bulacan province and today produces in the Manila area. Silver is column-distilled from Philippine sugar cane and aged up to five years in ex-bourbon barrels, after which it's filtered to remove the colour while retaining the flavour from ageing. The rum won a gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2018, an unusual achievement for a white rum.

The result is a smooth, approachable white rum, where cream soda and coconut meet a light vanilla sweetness.

    Tasting Notes

    Cream soda, coconut and vanilla.

    Palate

Dried tropical fruits, vanilla and toasted coconut.

  • Dark bottle of amber-coloured rum with elegant black and gold HSE label
    Item no.: 22227865379-11

Some of the rums in this bottle are older than most of the people drinking it – a few of HSE's oldest stocks date all the way back to the 1960s.

    Expert description

Habitation St. Etienne Martinique Rhum Agricole Extra Vieux XO is an AOC Martinique Rhum Agricole, blended from rums matured for at least a decade in carefully selected Cognac casks and bottled at 43%.

The XO expression draws on some of the oldest stocks in HSE's cellars at Habitation Saint-Étienne, some of which date back to the 1960s. Because the rum has rested in Cognac casks rather than the more common American oak, it takes on a deep amber colour and a profile that leans on Cognac tradition's finesse rather than rum's typical sweetness.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Complex yet not overwhelming, with light, fresh fruit notes, a grassy character and sweet mocha, complemented by pronounced notes of cocoa, mocha and pale tobacco with a hint of black pepper and nutmeg.

    Palate

An explosion of flavour, with dry, strong oak, tobacco and smoke, balanced by a pleasant, light floral sweetness.

    Finish

    Surprisingly long and warming.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-19754

Five years in the Caribbean's tropical heat, three years in Jerez's Spanish wine climate, this rum crosses the Atlantic twice, first as distillate, then as aged rum, before landing in the glass.

    Expert Description

Dos Maderas Atlantic Double Aged Rom is a Caribbean Rum, double-aged 5 years in ex-bourbon casks and a further 3 years in sherry casks in Spain, bottled at 37.5%.

Dos Maderas, produced by the Spanish sherry house Williams & Humbert, is known for its transatlantic ageing process. The first maturation takes place in the Caribbean in casks that previously held bourbon, after which the rum is shipped to Jerez, Spain, for a further maturation in sherry casks. The Atlantic release continues this concept, with a deep amber colour as the result of the meticulous, double ageing process.

The result is a complex, seductive rum where Caribbean and Spanish traditions meet in one bottle.

    Expert Description

Islay Rum Barrel Aged Geal is a Scottish Rum from Islay, cask-aged and bottled at 46%.

The rum is distilled by The Islay Rum Company in the former Hastie's Old Lemonade Factory in Port Ellen, where distiller Ben Inglis has produced rum since 2022, inspired by traditional Caribbean fermentation and distillation methods. Production uses dunder and wild yeast in a fermentation process spanning 168 hours, followed by distillation on a double-retort pot still that produces a spirit rich in funky, flavourful congeners. This Barrel Aged edition is the cask-matured counterpart to the distillery's unaged Geal, representing a rare meeting between Islay's whisky heritage and Caribbean rum tradition.

  • Bottle of Ron Sostenible Experimental Cask Tokaji Finish rum
    Item no.: 059763-62241

Where Rioja gave the rum a red wine's depth, Tokaji lends it the golden sweetness of Hungary's famous dessert wine - another chapter in a series where no cask choice repeats.

    Expert description

Ron Sostenible Experimental Cask 8 Year Tokaji Finish is a Rum from the Dominican Republic, finished in former Tokaji wine casks and bottled at 43%.

Like the brand's other Experimental Cask releases, the rum is distilled from locally grown sugar cane and matured for at least 8 years before undergoing its final cask finish. This time the choice has fallen on casks that previously held Tokaji, the famous Hungarian dessert wine known for its concentrated, honeyed sweetness - a cask choice that gives the rum a very different character from its Rioja-finished sibling.

The rum crosses the Atlantic aboard a wind-powered sailing ship, part of A Clean Spirit's overarching philosophy of sustainable production and transport. Because each cask choice is unique, no Experimental Cask release will ever taste quite like another.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Honeyed sweetness with notes of dried apricot and a light botrytis character.

    Expert description

Ron Sostenible Experimental Cask 8 Year Rioja Finish is a Rum from the Dominican Republic, finished in former Rioja wine casks and bottled at 43%.

The rum is distilled from locally grown sugar cane in the Dominican Republic and matured for at least 8 years before undergoing its final, experimental cask finish - this time in casks that previously held Rioja wine from northern Spain. Part of the journey to Europe takes place aboard an old sailing ship powered entirely by the wind, where traditional craftsmanship meets an innovative approach to cask experimentation.

    Item no.: 22220-6735skadetetiket

A rare agricole rum from Mauritius, sourced by Scottish bottler Dràm Mòr - this particular bottle has a damaged neck foil, but the contents are unaffected.

    Expert description

Grays Distillery 11 Year is a Single Cask Rum from Mauritius, bottled by Dràm Mòr at 51%.

Dràm Mòr, the Scottish independent bottler founded by Kenny and Viktorija Macdonald, sought out and purchased a cask from Grays rum distillery on Mauritius, from which only 444 bottles have been drawn. The nose is sharp and vegetal with a hint of barnyard and a prominent ester note - typical of the pure agricole style, where the rum is distilled from fresh cane juice rather than molasses.

This particular bottle has a damaged neck foil, which does not affect the rum's contents or quality but is the reason it is sold separately. The palate offers a clean agricole profile with tropical fruit, where sharpness and sweetness balance against a lingering dryness.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Sharp and vegetal, with a hint of barnyard and prominent ester character.

    Palate

  • Distillers Limited 17 Year Dram Mor Trinidad Tobago Single Cask Rum bottle
    Item no.: 2227865479-1106-1444

Trinidad Distillers Limited closed its doors in 2012, but single cask releases like this keep the distillery's legacy alive through Dràm Mòr's independent bottlings.

    Expert Description

Distillers Limited 17 Year Dram Mor is a Trinidad Rum from a single cask, aged for 17 years and bottled at 57.5%.

The rum originates from Trinidad Distillers Limited, a distillery with roots dating back to 1947, which brought several smaller Trinidadian distilleries under one roof, and which was part of the Angostura group until its closure in 2012. The cask was selected and bottled by Dràm Mòr, the Scottish independent bottler founded by husband and wife team Viktorija and Kenny Macdonald in Dumbarton. The 17 years of ageing give the rum an unusual depth for a single cask release from a distillery that no longer exists.

The result is a powerful, complex rum, where tropical fruit and oak meet a long, spiced finish shaped by its high cask strength.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Tropical fruit, toasted oak and a hint of molasses.

    Palate

Powerful and complex with spice and dark fruit.

    Finish

Long and warm with lingering oak.

Pope Spirits has built its name on rum from Guatemala, Nicaragua and Trinidad & Tobago. With Balthazar, the house turns its attention to Barbados, the island often called the cradle of rum.

    Expert Description

Balthazar 5 Year is a Barbados Rum, aged at least 5 years and bottled at 40%.

The rum is bottled by Pope Spirits and brings together craftsmanship from both Barbados and the Dominican Republic in a balanced composition. The minimum 5 years of ageing in oak casks shows clearly in the flavour, where aged oak adds depth and natural notes of vanilla create balance between sweetness and spice. The colour is entirely natural, arising solely from the long maturation process.

The result is a soft, rounded rum, where vanilla meets oak in a long, harmonious finish.

  • Ron Cristobal Santa Maria Red Wine Cask Finish rum with ship label
    Item no.: 2222786542225-792

Red grapes from European vineyards get to leave their mark on a Dominican Rum. In the Santa Maria series it's the rule rather than the exception that the unexpected cask makes the best story, and this red wine cask is nothing short of a colourful finale.

    Expert Description

Ron Cristobal Santa Maria Red Wine Cask Finish is a Dominican Rum finished in red wine casks and bottled at 42%.

Like the rest of the Santa Maria series, the base rum is distilled at Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos and aged in traditional oak casks before being transferred to casks that previously held red wine from European vineyards. The casks impart tannins and colour compounds from the grapes not otherwise found in a standard Dominican Rum, and the result sits somewhere between rum and a lightly wine-like dessert spirit.

The red wine cask pulls fruit and tannin forward without masking the rum's underlying character of brown sugar and tropical fruit. It's a finish well suited to closing out a meal or standing alone as an afternoon dram.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Ripe red grapes and orange peel, spiced with a hint of cloves and a touch of char from the cask.

    Palate

Wine-like and fruity with notes of orange and brown sugar, where the red wine's tannins provide a dry, taut structure.

    Finish

Medium length with white pepper and a final hint of dark berries fading out alongside the oak.

  • Ron Cristobal Santa Maria Calvados Finish rum with ship label
    Item no.: 2222786542225-791

Apple orchards in Normandy meet sugar cane from the Dominican Republic. The Santa Maria series is where Ron Cristobal dares to experiment, and this Calvados cask gives the rum a streak of fresh fruit rarely found elsewhere in the range.

    Expert Description

Ron Cristobal Santa Maria Calvados Finish is a Dominican Rum finished in French Calvados casks and bottled at 42%.

The bottle belongs to the Santa Maria series, Ron Cristobal's prestige line, where each release gets an extra maturation in a chosen cask after the base ageing in the Dominican Republic. The base spirit was distilled in 2010 at Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos and rested in oak casks before being transferred to Calvados casks that previously held apple brandy from Normandy. Bottling took place in June 2024 with a total outturn of 2,192 bottles, making this a limited release.

The Calvados cask pulls a different character forward than the classic sherry and port finishes the series is known for. The apple acidity from the cask lays a fresh layer over the rum's natural sweetness, while the cask's former brandy content adds a touch of warmth without weighing the rum down.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Green apples and a light acidity meet caramel and soft vanilla, with a hint of freshly baked apple pie in the background.

    Palate

Full and round with ripe apples, brown sugar and a lightly spiced warmth from the cask that ties the rum's sweetness together with its Calvados heritage.

    Finish

Long and dry, where the apple notes fade out alongside a hint of oak and a touch of pepper.

    Expert description

Ron Santiago de Cuba 12 Year Extra Añejo is a Cuban Rum, matured for 12 years in oak casks and bottled at 40%.

The rum comes from Santiago de Cuba, one of Cuba's most respected rum houses, where traditional distillation methods meet modern refinement. The 12 Year is the house's older, more serious expression, drier and more elegant than the younger releases, with a deep, dark complexity that comes from the long cask maturation. Item no.: 22227865407-11-6

There's no shortage of spiced rum on the market, but Takamaka Dark Spiced stands out by staying drier and spicier than most.

    Expert description

Takamaka Dark Spiced is a Dark Rum spiced with natural essences and bottled at 38%.

The rum comes from Trois Frères Distillery on Mahé in the Seychelles and is the house's flagship product. The base is a blend of unaged column and pot still distillate, subsequently spiced with natural essences of vanilla, papaya and tropical spices. The result is a spiced rum that's pleasantly drier than many others in the category, with papaya as the signature flavour that sets it apart from traditional Caribbean spiced rum styles.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Cinnamon, vanilla and a light woody note, underpinned by a discreet fruitiness of papaya and baking spice.

    Palate

Soft top notes of local spice, papaya, vanilla and caramel, with an underlying note of grass and dry oak.

    Finish

Soft and long with a lingering vanilla note and a discreet spiciness.

  • Clear bottle with yellow label and pineapple motif, Takamaka Zannanan
    Item no.: 22227865407-11-5

Zannanan is the Creole word for pineapple, and it's no coincidence that's exactly what this bottle tastes most of.

    Expert description

Takamaka Zannanan is a Spirit Drink flavoured with pineapple and bottled at 40%.

The rum comes from Trois Frères Distillery on Mahé in the Seychelles and starts from the house's unaged Blanc rum, which is then infused with natural pineapple essences. The added sugar used in the flavouring means the product must legally be labelled Spirit Drink rather than Rum. The result is a vibrant, fruit-driven drink where the fresh pineapple is complemented by sugarcane and a hint of gentle spice from the base.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Lively ripe pineapple, tropical fruit and a delicate vanilla tone.

    Palate

Sweet, juicy and refreshing with pronounced pineapple flavour balanced by light cane sugar sweetness, citrus and a soft rum base.

    Finish

Light and fruity with a lingering pineapple sweetness and a crisp, refreshing close.
