The swallow in Matusalem's logo has followed the brand since 1888, back when founder Pablo Nonell had already introduced the solera system to Cuba, and Gran Reserva carries that legacy forward in its most mature form.
Expert Description
Ron Matusalem 15 Year Gran Reserva is a Dark Rum made using the solera system, bottled at 40%.
The Matusalem brand was founded by Spanish immigrant Pablo Nonell, who opened his first distillery in Santiago de Cuba in 1872 and became one of the pioneers of the solera system in the Cuban rum industry. After Nonell, his nephews Enrique and Benjamin Camp took over the business, and later the Álvarez family came to lead it. Following legal disputes in the 1990s, production was firmly established in the Dominican Republic in 2016, where the brand is now sold in more than 70 countries. Gran Reserva 15 Year is one of the house's most mature releases, built on the solera's layers of multiple vintages of rum.
The result is a deep, dark rum, where caramel and dried fruit meet a warm, rounded finish.
