Named after the Cueva people, first encountered by Spanish conquerors in Panama in 1501, this youngest edition in the series opens a journey through the house's solera-aged expressions.
Expert Description
Ron Cueva 1501 Sistema 8 Solera is a Panama Rum aged via the solera method for a minimum of 8 years and bottled at 40%.
The rum is produced by Ron Cueva 1501, a Danish-Panamanian brand honouring the original Cueva people, who were wiped out in 1535 following battles with the Spanish conquerors and diseases brought from Europe. Although Panamanian law only requires a minimum of two years ageing, Ron Cueva 1501 matures the rum via the solera system, where younger and older distillates are continuously blended. Sistema 8 is the youngest and most approachable edition in the series, which also includes 12, 18, 25 and 33 year variants.
The result is a round, smooth rum, where caramel and vanilla meet dried fruit and a lightly spiced finish.
