Rum is made from cane sugar and water. This mixture is fermented to form a liquid containing 8-10% alcohol. It is then distilled to an alcohol percentage of up to 90% and then stored on oak barrels. Once the rum has been stored, it is diluted to 40-43% alcohol and filled into bottles.

Below you can see our large selection of rum. We have many different brands and variants. By clicking on the categories below, you see different kinds of rum variants.

  • Clear bottle with turquoise label and palm motif, Takamaka Coco
    Item no.: 22227865407-11-4

Coconut and rum is a classic combination, but Takamaka Coco stays firmly on the right side of the line between delicious and sickly sweet.

    Expert description

Takamaka Coco is a Rum Liqueur flavoured with coconut and bottled at 25%.

The liqueur comes from Trois Frères Distillery on Mahé in the Seychelles and is made with a blend of pot still and column still distillate, subsequently flavoured with coconut. The result is a liqueur closer to a soft, coconut-forward expression than a heavy, sugar-dominated coconut liqueur, making it more versatile both in cocktails and as a relaxed drink on its own.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh coconut, tropical fruit, vanilla and a hint of sugarcane.

    Palate

Round and soft with distinct coconut, balanced by vanilla, discreet spice and a light rum sweetness.

  • Clear bottle with light yellow label and palm motif, Takamaka Zenn
    Item no.: 22227865407-11-3

Zenn is the Creole word for "sweet," and that's exactly the feeling Takamaka has tried to capture in this light, accessible rum.

    Expert description

Takamaka Rum Zenn is an Unaged Rum with a brief passage through ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 40%.

The rum comes from Trois Frères Distillery on Mahé in the Seychelles and is composed as a light, creamy, immediately accessible rum that gains a subtle wood influence from a short period in American ex-bourbon casks without being categorised as a true age-stated rum. This makes Zenn a middle ground between the house's clean Blanc expression and the fully matured dark rum releases.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh citrus and tropical fruit, complemented by a hint of oak and a fine vanilla note.

Blanc is the entry point to the Takamaka series, a fresh, grassy white rum that clearly carries the imprint of the Seychelles' clear, tropical waters.

    Expert description

Takamaka Blanc is a White Rum distilled on column and pot still and bottled at 40.2%.

The rum comes from Trois Frères Distillery on Mahé in the Seychelles, the country's only distillery. The base is a molasses-based column distillate, distilled up to 94%, which is then diluted with pure spring water from the island to bottling strength. A smaller share of high-ester pot still rum is added to give a soft, creamy character and natural aromatic undertones typical of the style from this part of the Indian Ocean.

Bright and lightly aromatic with sugarcane, lime zest, green apple and a hint of pepper.

  • Puntacana Esplendido bottle of dark Dominican rum with gold label
    Item no.: 22227865421-892

The cane fields at the eastern end of the Dominican Republic run all the way to the coast, where the air stays salty and damp the year round. Casks work hard in that heat, and they work fast. Esplendido means splendid, and the producer put the word on the label without flinching.

Please note: There is no gift box with this bottle.

    The expert's description

Puntacana Esplendido Dominican Republic Rum 70 cl 38% is a Dominican Rum aged 12 to 20 years in American oak casks, finished in used Burgundy wine casks and bottled at 38%.

The blend brings together young and older distillates married with a 25 year old mother rum. The oldest part supplies the depth, the younger parts the lift, and the result is a very dark rum in the soft Spanish style. The colour is close to mahogany and the texture is thick enough to cling to the side of the glass.

The last six months are spent in used Burgundy wine casks. That is an unusual choice for a Dominican rum, where a finish more often happens in sherry or port wood. The Burgundy casks lay dried red fruit and a light tannin under the sweetness and pull the rum away from straight caramel.

Puntacana Club comes from Oliver & Oliver, a family firm of Cuban origin now based in the Dominican Republic. Maturation happens in a tropical climate, where evaporation runs far higher than in a cool cellar in the north and a cask covers more ground in fewer years. The 12 to 20 years on the label therefore add up to more maturation than the numbers suggest.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Sweet baking straight away, warm and fresh from the oven, with thick toffee behind it. A trace of dark fruit and vanilla pod rounds the aroma off.

    Palate

Brown sugar and fat bourbon vanilla lead, carried by American oak that adds a little dry structure. Dried fruit from the wine casks arrives midway, and the sweetness stays the course without turning sticky.

    Finish

Roasted carob, cinnamon and caramelised fruit. Long and warm, and the oak is the last thing standing.

    Did you know?

Oliver & Oliver do not distil. The house is a bodega that buys in distillate, ages it and assembles the blends, and the same cellar stands behind labels such as Opthimus, Quorhum and Cubaney. It is a far more common way of working in rum than most people assume.

    Expert description

Ron Botran Ki' is a Rum from Guatemala, matured in casks including ex-American whiskey and Moscatel casks, bottled at 40%.

Botran Ki' is made from top-quality sugar cane juice, so-called "virgin honey", and matured through a specially adapted solera system, where the rum is dynamically moved between casks of different ages to create a unique balance of young and older rum. Part of the maturation takes place in casks that previously held Moscatel wine, giving the rum its characteristic sweetness and softness.

Behind the rum is Ron Botran, one of Guatemala's most respected rum houses, which has been producing rum since the 1930s. With no added sugar, Botran Ki' retains its authentic character, making it versatile - just as well suited at room temperature as in a cocktail.

    Item no.: 059763-615-1031

The schooner Kirk and Sweeney once sailed rum into the USA during prohibition - today the name lives on in a bottle where even the cork has a story to tell.

    Expert Description

Kirk & Sweeney Gran Reserva is a Rum from the Dominican Republic, a blend of rums aged in American and French oak casks and bottled at 40%.

Gran Reserva is the more mature expression in the Kirk & Sweeney range, produced like its siblings by J. Armando Bermudez & Co. in Santiago de los Caballeros. The name comes from a famous smuggling schooner that carried rum from the Caribbean into dry USA in the 1920s - a chapter of rum history the brand carries in both its name and its details.

Around the cork sits a thin brass band with coordinates pointing back to the American east coast, where the smuggling ship was once discovered - a small, tangible reminder of where the rum's story truly begins.

Rum from the Ramu River Valley in Papua New Guinea meets rum from the sunny island of Fiji - and to comply with Australia's strict rules, it is all spiced on a small vineyard in Orange, New South Wales.

    Expert description

Cargo Cult Dry Spiced is a spiced Rum from Australia, matured in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 38.5%.

The rum combines matured rum from the South Pacific - from the Ramu River Valley in Papua New Guinea and from Fiji - spiced with cardamom, clove, cinnamon, ginger and vanilla. Because Australia's import and production rules are strict, the rum is blended and spiced on a small vineyard in Orange, New South Wales, then matured for up to three years in ex-bourbon casks under tropical heat.

It is precisely the absence of added sugar that sets Dry Spiced apart from many other spiced rum styles - the spices build the flavour without a layer of sweetness masking the rum's own character.

  • Miniature bottle Plantation XO 20th Anniversary Barbados Rum
    Item no.: 059763-615-915

For twenty years Plantation XO has sat on shelves as one of rum's great reference points - this small bottle offers a convenient look at what all the praise is about.

    Expert description

Plantation XO 20th Anniversary is an Extra Old Barbados Rum, bottled at 40% in this 10 cl miniature edition.

The bottle marks the 20th anniversary of Plantation XO, one of the brand's most acclaimed releases, composed from rum matured through a solera-inspired ageing system. The rum first matures in the tropics of Barbados before being finished in France - a double-maturation process characteristic of Plantation's style, giving the rum its signature softness.

Behind Plantation is the French house Maison Ferrand, which since the 1990s has specialised in seeking out rum from across the Caribbean and further maturing it in the Cognac region. XO 20th Anniversary pays tribute to the two decades the brand has spent refining this approach.

  • Bottle of Serum Panama Seasons Vintage 2005 Wet Rum
    Item no.: 059763-615-913

Where "Dry" shows off the cane's raw character, "Wet" goes the other way - a softer, rounder take on the same Panamanian cane juice.

    Expert description

Serum Panama Seasons Vintage 2005 Wet is a Rum from the Sèrum distillery, bottled at 40%.

Like its dry sibling, the Wet release is distilled from fresh, concentrated cane juice rather than molasses, giving a fine aroma of cane and fruit. Where the Dry release leans into the rum's raw, unfiltered side, the Wet version is composed for a softer, more approachable style, still built on the same 2005 vintage and the same respect for the cane's natural character.

Sèrum is a Panamanian rum brand founded in 2018, drawing on the history of the Panama Canal. The Panama Seasons series, to which both Wet and Dry belong, shows two sides of the same craft - one raw and unadorned, the other round and inviting.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Sugar cane and ripe fruit with a softer, sweeter character than the dry release.

    Palate

Round and full, with tropical fruit and a hint of honey.

    Finish

    Medium length, soft and sweet.
