Where Dark Spiced leans into spice, Extra Noir goes for depth, a darker, more intense rum without a single drop of added sugar.

    Expert description

Takamaka Extra Noir is a Dark Rum matured 60 days in former Rhum Agricole casks and bottled at 43%.

The rum comes from Trois Frères Distillery on Mahé in the Seychelles and is a blend of pot still and column still distillates from molasses. After blending, the rum spends 60 days in casks that previously held French sugarcane rum, giving it extra depth and complexity. At bottling, only 0.7 ml of caramel per litre is added to keep the colour consistent, but no sugar, setting Extra Noir apart from the house's sweeter Dark Spiced expression.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Intense with chocolate, cinnamon and cloves, underpinned by vanilla, toasted oak, caramel, dried fruit and cocoa.

Full-bodied and velvety with layers of dark caramel, molasses, roasted coffee, baking spice and tropical fruit plus a touch of dark chocolate.

    Finish

Long, soft and warming with vanilla, oak spice, cocoa, caramel and dried fruit.
