Among the Santa Maria series' many finish variants, the port wine edition is the one that leans closest to classic dessert wine sweetness.
Expert description
Ron Cristobal Santa Maria Ruby Port Finish is a Rum from the Dominican Republic, distilled in 2009 and finished in ex-Ruby Port wine casks, bottled at 42%.
The rum starts from the same 2009 distillate that forms the base of the entire Santa Maria series, but after the initial bourbon cask maturation it is moved into casks that previously held Ruby Port wine. The port's deep, berry-driven sweetness melts together with the rum's natural character, creating one of the most dessert-like editions in the Santa Maria series.

Did you know?
Ruby Port is the youngest and most fruit-forward type of port wine, making it an obvious choice for rum finishing since it retains a vibrant berry sweetness rather than the drier, nuttier notes found in older port styles.
