On the whisky isle of Islay, known worldwide for its peated whisky, The Islay Rum Company has created something entirely new: the island's first and only rum distillery.

    Expert Description

Islay Rum Barrel Aged Geal is a Scottish Rum from Islay, cask-aged and bottled at 46%.

The rum is distilled by The Islay Rum Company in the former Hastie's Old Lemonade Factory in Port Ellen, where distiller Ben Inglis has produced rum since 2022, inspired by traditional Caribbean fermentation and distillation methods. Production uses dunder and wild yeast in a fermentation process spanning 168 hours, followed by distillation on a double-retort pot still that produces a spirit rich in funky, flavourful congeners. This Barrel Aged edition is the cask-matured counterpart to the distillery's unaged Geal, representing a rare meeting between Islay's whisky heritage and Caribbean rum tradition.

The result is an intense, funky rum, where tropical ester character meets oak and a light, smoky undercurrent.
