Named after the green sea turtle that moves freely between Panama's coasts and the two surrounding oceans, this rum stays true to the classic ex-bourbon barrel style.
Expert Description
Ron Dos Mares Tortuga Verde XO is a Panama Rum aged in ex-bourbon barrels, bottled at 40%.
The rum is part of Ron Dos Mares' XO Collection and is produced by Varela Hermanos at Hacienda San Isidro in Panama, the same company behind Ron Abuelo. The base rum is column distilled from molasses and aged for a minimum of 10 years in ex-bourbon barrels, giving it a more classic, direct Panamanian style than its sibling release Medusa de Cristal, which finishes in sherry casks. The name Tortuga Verde refers to the green sea turtle, symbolising freedom between the white beaches, the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.
The result is a round, caramel-forward rum, where dried fruit meets a warm, balanced finish.
