Only casks from the top tier of Ron Abuelo's hot warehouses, where up to 15% of the rum evaporates each year, are selected for this intense edition of the house's 12 year old classic.
Expert Description
Abuelo XII Anos Three Angels is a Panama Rum double-aged 12 years in white American oak followed by extra-charred casks and bottled at 43%.
The rum is produced by the Varela Hermanos distillery in Panama and is a more intense edition of the house's award-winning Abuelo XII Two Oaks. Unlike the standard release, this uses only rum from the casks on the top row of Ron Abuelo's vintage pallet warehouses, where temperatures can reach as high as 35 degrees Celsius. The extreme heat increases evaporation, known as the angel's share, to as much as 15% a year, far above the 2-3% typically seen in Scotland, which gave the rum its name Three Angels.
The result is an intense, deeply flavoured rum, where toasted hazelnut meets dark chocolate and a long, lightly smoky finish.
