The rum comes from Varela Hermanos, which has distilled rum in Panama since 1908. Reserva Especial is the house's entry level among the age-stated releases, where the long column distillation gives a clean, smooth base that the five-year maturation builds on with toffee, caramel and a hint of spice. It won gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2010.

Tasting notes

Nose
