Edradour Ballechin 13 Year Old SFTC 2004/2018 is an exclusive single malt whisky from the small but highly respected Edradour Distillery located in the Highland region of Scotland. This whisky is part of the Straight From The Cask (SFTC) series, known for its powerful and unfiltered releases drawn directly from single casks at cask strength.
This edition was distilled on April 15th, 2004, and bottled on January 15th, 2018, giving it a full 13 years of maturation. It was aged for the entire period in a single port cask (cask no. 199), which contributes to its deep color and rich flavor profile. The whisky is bottled at 53.3% ABV, un-chillfiltered and with natural color.
Tasting notes: Nose: An intense and rich aroma of red berries, dark chocolate, pecans, and damp oak. The port cask influence is evident, bringing a sweet and vinous character that melds beautifully with Ballechin’s bold peaty smoke.
Palate: Layer upon layer of strawberry, brown sugar, and red fruits. The peated smoke is present but well-integrated, offering a balanced contrast to the sweet wine influence. Hints of spiced oak, caramel, and delicate herbs emerge.
Finish: Long and persistent with notes of flamed orange peel, dark smoke, and black pepper. A dry yet elegant finish with warming spices and a touch of sweetness that lingers.
This whisky is a harmonious blend of the fruity sweetness from the port cask and Ballechin’s signature heavy peat. It delivers a complex and multi-layered experience.
