Rock Oyster Sherry Edition from Douglas Laing is an Island Blended Malt Scotch Whisky bottled at 46.8%, created to unite the series’ maritime character with the deep sweetness that only sherry casks can bring. It is the first time Rock Oyster has received a sherry finish, and the result is a whisky where sea salt, peat smoke and coastal minerality meet dark fruit, spice and a rounder sweetness from Spanish butts.

The aroma opens with clear sherry notes: dried fruit, dark caramel and spiced biscuits, followed by citrus, pepper and a soft, sweet peat smoke. Beneath the sweeter layers lies a light earthy tone and a subtle minerality reminiscent of sea breeze and wet stones. The overall impression is full, balanced and elegant.

The palate is rich and lively. It begins with sweet peat smoke and warmth from the sherry cask before citrus, pepper and a hint of seaweed emerge. The influence of the sherry is evident in notes of raisins, clove and dark chocolate, which blend seamlessly with Rock Oyster’s classic profile of salt, smoke and malt. The texture is round and full, yet still distinctly maritime.

The finish is long and spicy with brine, pepper and gentle smoke lingering on. The sherry adds a soft sweetness that rounds off the experience without diminishing the whisky’s coastal character.
