About Vintage Port: Many consider this the Rolls Royce of Port. Vintage Port is a kind of quality stamp of the best wines, whereby in high-yield years you see many Vintage Port and conversely, only a few in low-yield years. Vintage Port ages 2-3 years in barrels before being bottled according to vintage and year of bottling. This port wine then evolves over the next 10 to 50 years to become a very special tasting experience. Vintage Ports are best purchased with the intention of leaving the bottles in the cellar for the next 10 to 20 years to reach their FULL (we couldn't help but emphasize the word) potential in terms of both maturity and taste. The taste is described as fresh with rich notes of various fruits and softer on the palate. Vintage Port will settle and should be decanted before serving - and drunk within a few days. Remember that if you buy a young Vintage Port, it is important to store it in a dark and cool place. Some people buy Vintage Port as an investment project and here at Whisky.dk we are also happy to help with ideas for good investments. A Vintage Port has undergone a special process prior to its fine title. It is sent to a port wine institute within a set time frame after bottling, along with a description of the quantity produced. It must then pass a blind tasting before it can be called a Vintage Port. It's only about every 2-3 years that it's a Vintage year. Vintage Port only makes up about 3% of the total production, which is pretty incredible with all the attention this type of port gets.
