Behind Ferdinand's distillery in the Saar valley grow quince trees, and the freshly harvested muscatel quinces are blended here with the distillery's own Rausch Kabinett wine in a regional homage to British sloe gin.
Expert's description
Ferdinand's Saar Quince Gin is a German quince gin, unaged and bottled at 30%.
The gin is built on over 30 finely balanced botanicals taken from the vineyards and their own cultivation, including lemon, thyme, juniper, rosehip, almond, roses and lavender.
The freshly harvested muscatel quinces, a rare pear quince variety grown behind the distillery, are macerated together with an infusion of the house's Rausch Kabinett wine.
The result is the distillery's regional homage to British sloe gin, where the quince's sweetness and tartness replace the sloe berry.
