Communion wine for church Have you tried the Drouet Pineau des Charentes Vintage Rose? It tastes amazing and has a lovely bouquet of fruit and plum, as well as a sweet taste of fruits and spices. It is made from the Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc varieties, all of which combine to create a taste experience that makes communion a real pleasure.

Legend has it that Pineau des Charentes was discovered by mistake in the 16th century. A winegrower in Cognac accidentally poured unfermented grape juice into a cask that still contained some cognac. The winemaker was disappointed to discover that the contents of the cask wouldn't ferment, so he put the cask in a dark corner and tried to forget about his mistake. When he tasted the contents a few months later, he was pleasantly surprised. Thus, Pineau des Charentes was born. Pineau des Charentes can only be produced in Charentes-Maritime, an area located in southwest France, with the town of Cognac at its center. The area borders Bordeaux to the south. In 1935, Pineau des Charentes obtained the right to bear the title of original appelation.

Pineau des Charentes is made by adding 3/4 part fresh grape juice to 1/4 part cognac. The secret to a good Pineau is the quality of the must, which should preferably have a high sugar content, and the quality of the cognac used, which should be more than 1 year old. The wine is then aged for at least a year in oak barrels, still with sediment, to bring the alcohol content down to between 16 and 22%.

The rosé is made from red must from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec grapes. It is sweeter and slightly more powerful than the white, but has a very charming fruit character. Pineau des Charentes is perfect as an altar wine. In both cases, it should be drunk chilled. Many local chefs also recommend it with honeydew melon, strawberries or as an ingredient in sauces for meat dishes. Pineau des Charentes can be drunk young, but only improves with longer aging in unopened bottles.

Pineau des Charentes from Domaine de Fontauger is especially known for the rosé - which has won many awards: Gold Medal in 1980 Bristol International Wine and Spirit Competition Silver and Bronze in 1984 in London Silver Medals at Vinezpo in 1989, 1991 and 1997 Gold Medal in 1999 in France Challenge International du Vin Looking for cognac in the classifications Cognac VS, Cognac VSOP and Cognac XO?
