2019 was a vintage the Douro Valley remembered for its quality, and Dalva chose to give the grapes from that exact year a prominent place in this Late Bottled Vintage – ready to drink without any waiting.

    Expert's Description

Dalva LBV 2019 is a Portuguese Late Bottled Vintage Port from the Douro Valley, aged in oak casks and bottled at 20%.

The LBV style was created as a faster alternative to traditional Vintage Port: the wine is aged four to six years in cask – far longer than a standard Ruby – and is therefore ready to drink immediately, without needing to be decanted or aged further in the bottle.

Behind the bottle stands Dalva, the brand of the Port house C. da Silva in Vila Nova de Gaia, founded in 1862 under the name Corrêa Ribeiro e Filhos. The house took on its current identity in 1933, when Clemente da Silva took over the firm after arriving from Brazil.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose is intensely fruity, with raspberry, blackberry and other dark berries, complemented by elegant cocoa notes.

    Palate

The palate is full-bodied, spiced and fresh, with a jammy, juicy character kept in check by soft tannins and a touch of dark cherry.

    Finish

The finish is persistent and well structured, closing on a final note of dark chocolate.
