Dalva Colheita Magnum 2005 Port Wine Colheita 2005 from Dalva is barrel aged from the harvest year and bottled just before it is released on the market. The many years in barrel have rounded out the wine, which now appears in perfect balance between power and elegance. The taste offers nuances of dark dried fruit, plums and hazelnuts. At the same time, it is not older than the sweetness is kept in check by a good bite. A barrel-aged port that is sublimely rounded, yet still has enough character and vitality to stand up to even heavier desserts or strong cheeses. Bodega: Dalva Port Type: Tawny Port Alc. strength: 20 % 150 cl.
Info about Tawny Port Wine Tawny Port Wine is, along with Ruby Port Wine, one of the 2 biggest pillars of the Port wine mecca. Of these two types, Tawny has aged the longest - in barrels (up to 20 years). This can be seen in the brownish color, which is due to the grape color fading over the years. The beautiful color settles in the barrels. When Tawny port gets a beautiful mahogany-chesterfield-sofa color, it is perfectly matured and ready to drink.

Tawny's prolonged maturation/fermentation gives it a deep and more complex flavor and character - less sweet. The taste is often described as nutty and optimally as caramelized figs and plums. Since it is oxygenated during barrel maturation, Tawny can tolerate oxygen and this allows Tawny port to last for weeks - even months after opening, as it does not develop further after opening. You can get Tawny as a 10, 20, 30 and 40 year old port. The bottling year you see on the bottle is an average of the different vintages the port is made from. This port blend is filtered and sold ready to serve. An older Tawny is often used as a dessert wine, but can occasionally be served with the main course. It is recommended to serve port wine when it is between 15-20 degrees, but Tawny can be served colder than that. Tawny port wine, like many other port wines, must be approved prior to sale by the Instituto do Vinho do Porto (IVDP), which oversees all port wine. They work a bit like Whisky.dk does in Denmark. They taste the products and assess them to ensure a high quality in the delivery. Oh yes... and then there is the difference that the Portuguese institute puts paper seals on the bottles and is supported by the Ministry of Finance and Agriculture. Tawny Port can be divided into the types Colheita, Unfiltered and Vintage Tawny.
