Two brothers from Padua, a secret recipe and a sunshine-coloured aperitif that has since become the very symbol of Italian terrace culture.

    Expert description

Aperol Aperitivo is an Italian Herbal liqueur based on sweet and bitter oranges, rhubarb and herbs, bottled at 11%.

Aperol was created in 1919 by brothers Luigi and Silvio Barbieri in the northern Italian city of Padua, who wanted an aperitif with lower alcohol strength than the other bitter liqueurs of the time. The recipe is still secret, but the signature orange colour and bittersweet taste come from a blend of oranges, rhubarb and a wide range of herbs and roots. Today Aperol is owned and produced by Gruppo Campari, and the liqueur is the undisputed main ingredient in the world's best-selling spritz cocktail.

    Taste

The nose is refreshing with bitter oranges and a hint of herbs. On the palate, Aperol Aperitivo is bittersweet and easy-drinking with a clear orange character, while the finish is short and cleansing with a pleasant bitterness.
