Rock Oyster 18 Years from Douglas Laing is an Island Blended Malt Scotch Whisky bottled at 46.8%, created to showcase the mature and deeply complex side of island whisky. It builds on the series’ maritime character but adds greater depth, more rounded smoke and a clear elegance that only long ageing can provide. The combination of malts from several islands results in a whisky that is both raw, harmonious and full of character.

The aroma is rich and nuanced with plenty of citrus – lime, lemon and a creamy note of lemon yoghurt – along with a hint of copper coins, spiced biscuits, very subtle peat smoke, tobacco and milk chocolate. At times, floral notes appear, adding an extra dimension. The overall impression is balanced, complex and highly inviting.

The palate opens with earthy peat smoke and gentle wood smoke, followed by the fresh citrus from the nose and distinct maritime elements such as seaweed and sea salt. A touch of black pepper, cloves and brine adds structure and depth, while the mature malt ties everything together. The finish is long, salty and smoky with peppery warmth and a lingering coastal character.

Rock Oyster is a whisky for those who appreciate the maritime style but prefer a more approachable and balanced smoke profile than the heaviest Islay expressions.
