Rum is made from cane sugar and water. This mixture is fermented to form a liquid containing 8-10% alcohol. It is then distilled to an alcohol percentage of up to 90% and then stored on oak barrels. Once the rum has been stored, it is diluted to 40-43% alcohol and filled into bottles.

The label is shaped like a classic vinyl record label, complete with a small hole in the center, just like an LP. The design draws inspiration from ‘90s techno maxi-singles, with INFERNAL’s iconic flame as the visual focal point. The name INFERNAL RUM is written like a song title, while the parenthesis—where a remix version would usually be—contains a description of the rum instead.
Thoughtfully Crafted Details
Every design element is intricately connected to the world of music. Instead of 45 RPM, the rum’s alcohol percentage is listed as 40% alc., and the typical copyright line encircling the label has been replaced with an alternative version in line with the theme. The small catalog number, which usually indicates a record’s release date, has been modified to read 1997-2023—a tribute to INFERNAL’s long career.
A Tribute to DJ Culture
The lime yellow stripe cutting through the label is a graphic nod to DJs who used stickers as markers on vinyl records to identify specific sounds when scratching or mixing in clubs. To complete the musical aesthetic, the label is placed slightly askew—as if caught mid-spin.

The Islay Rum Company – This is rum from the well-known island of Islay, which is most famous for its peated whiskies. It’s called Barrel Aged Rum because it has been matured in used Islay whisky casks. The people behind The Vintage Malt Whisky Company are also the driving force behind this new Islay rum distillery.
Their Head Distiller is Ben Inglis, whose inspiration comes from Haiti, Jamaica, and the French West Indies. The rum is produced at The Old Lemonade Factory, where they have installed beautiful copper pot stills. The first drops of white rum ran through the system in February 2022. The “heart” of the spirit comes in at around 83% ABV after 7 hours of distillation, but it is reduced to 46% before bottling. The fermentation time is a full 168 hours.

The people behind The Vintage Malt Whisky Company are also behind this new Islay rum distillery.
