Rum Categories

Are you, like us at Whisky.dk, absolutely crazy about rum? Then this page is just for you. On this page you can find a universe of rum. We have a great passion for rum and we really want to share it with you.

Rum is made from cane sugar and water. This mixture is fermented to form a liquid containing 8-10% alcohol. It is then distilled to an alcohol percentage of up to 90% and then stored on oak barrels. Once the rum has been stored, it is diluted to 40-43% alcohol and filled into bottles.

Below you can see our large selection of rum. We have many different brands and variants. By clicking on the categories below, you see different kinds of rum variants.

  • Kraken Spiced Black Trinidad Rum 40%
    Item no.: 22227865407-8

The sugar cane grows right down to the coast in Trinidad, and the molasses from it ends up in tall distillation columns. The rum that comes out is young and raw. Then come the spices. And then comes the bottle with two handles on the neck and a sea monster dragging a sailing ship into the deep.

    Expert description

Kraken Spiced Black Trinidad Rum is a Spiced Rum from Trinidad, made from molasses rum aged 1-2 years and bottled at 40%.

The base rum comes from Angostura Distillery in Trinidad, where it is column-distilled from cane molasses. After a couple of years in cask it is blended with a spice recipe that Proximo Spirits keeps close to its chest. Cinnamon, ginger and cloves are the only ones officially confirmed. Caramel gives it its final, almost jet-black colour, which is also why it cannot claim to be naturally coloured.

Kraken hit the market in 2010 and quickly became the bottle people pointed at behind the bar before they had even tasted it. The name comes from the Norse legend of the sea monster, and the bottle shape is copied from old Victorian rum bottles with two handles on the neck, so they could be lashed down on board a ship in rough weather.

It is a rum built to be mixed. The sweetness and spices stand up strongly enough to be felt through ginger beer, cola and coffee without disappearing.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Vanilla and caramel first, heavy and sweet. Then cinnamon, a touch of lime and something reminiscent of coffee grounds and liquorice.

    Palate

Thick and syrupy. Molasses, brown sugar, cloves and nutmeg, with a dark roasted note in the background like espresso and toasted oak.

    Finish

Long and peppery. The spices linger, the sweetness fades slowly.

  • La Maison Du Rhum 2007 LMDR Batch 3 Paraguay rum bottle
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280345

Paraguay is almost entirely absent from the rum map, but the Fortin distillery makes its distillate from clarified sugar cane honey instead of molasses, a technique that gives this 13-year-old release a character all its own.

    Expert Description

La Maison Du Rhum 2007 LMDR Batch 3 Rom Paraguay is a Paraguay Rum, distilled in 2007 and aged 13 years, bottled at 45%.

The rum comes from the Fortin distillery, part of the Castilla distillery founded in 1993, and is made from clarified sugar cane juice, often called cane honey, rather than the more common molasses. After 72 hours of fermentation with wild yeast strains, the rum is distilled on column stills and first aged in American ex-bourbon casks, before finishing with a short period in Fino sherry casks. The French bottler La Maison Du Rhum, run by distributor Dugas, released only 3,657 bottles of this third batch in 2020.

The result is a rum with clear structure and a lightly smoky, earthy complexity that sets it apart from more traditional Caribbean rum styles.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Lightly roasted and ashen, with quince paste, liquorice and molasses tones beneath the surface.

    Palate

Chewy and full-bodied with a rich, slightly sulphurous woodiness, flinty tones and gentle blond tobacco.

    Finish

Long with cane sweetness and a lingering mineral dryness from the Fino finish.

No cask, no waiting, just raw distillate. Le Galion New Make shows the cane completely unfiltered, exactly as it left the still at one of Martinique's most respected yet least known distilleries.

    Expert Description

Le Galion Martinique New Make RomDeLuxe is a Martinique Rum distilled from fresh cane juice in a Creole column, unaged and bottled at cask strength, 59.1%.

The rum comes from the Le Galion distillery on Martinique, which RomDeLuxe selected to show the distillate in its purest form, with no cask maturation whatsoever. Le Galion is less well known than the island's major agricole houses like Clément and Trois Rivières, but enjoys high regard among rum connoisseurs for its characterful, green style. This release is limited to just 80 bottles.

Without the influence of a cask, the rum's raw, herbal and yeasty character appears in all its unprocessed strength, a style close to traditional rhum agricole blanc, but with an even more rustic profile.

  • Bottle of Legendario Elixir de Cuba spirit drink
    Item no.: 22227865416-33

Some drinks insist on being pure rum. Legendario Elixir de Cuba does the opposite, making no secret of being something entirely its own.

    Expert description

Legendario Elixir de Cuba 7 Year is a Spirit Drink based on Cuban rum matured up to 7 years, blended with raisin extract and bottled at 34%.

The elixir is made by Legendario, a Cuban house founded in 1946, by blending cask-matured rum with an extract of grapes and raisins. Because Cuban law only permits up to 20 grams of added sugar per litre for a spirit to be called rum, this drink correctly falls into the Spirit Drink category instead, with a thicker, more dessert-like style than classic rum. The result is a sweet, easy-drinking bottle that is simple to enjoy both neat and in simple mixes.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dried fruit, especially raisins and prunes, with vanilla, caramel and a hint of light tobacco.

    Palate

Caramelised raisin, vanilla, chocolate and soft oak, in an almost liqueur-like, smooth texture.

    Finish

Softly rounded, with lingering sweetness and light oak.

    Expert description

Levasseur Dark is a Rum from the Seychelles, matured in antique casks and bottled at 40%.

The rum comes from Levasseur Rum, founded by Marco Francis in collaboration with Mauritian master blender Frederic Bestel, with the distillery located at Au Cap on the southern tip of Mahé. The name pays tribute to the legendary 18th-century pirate Olivier Levasseur, whose story still lives on in the region's folklore. The Dark expression is matured in antique bourbon casks together with wood shards infused with authentic aromas of roasted walnut, vanilla, cinnamon and whisky, giving the rum a character closer to whisky than to traditional Caribbean rum. It is made without added sugar.

    Tasting notes

Rhum agricole is made from fresh sugarcane juice, not molasses, and at Longueteau the self-sufficiency with sugarcane goes all the way back to the fields surrounding the distillery.

    Expert description

Longueteau XO is a Rhum Agricole Vieux from Guadeloupe, blended from 8, 9 and 10 year old vintages and matured in former cognac casks, bottled at 42%.

  • Rum bottle with Christmas design, Mezclado Limited Jule Edition
    Item no.: 222233369-74232

Only 3,000 bottles exist of this edition, where Mezclado's original Christmas rum has been married to the company's own 10-year-old rum – a bigger, more serious take on the sweet Christmas classic.

    Expert Description

Mezclado Jule Edition 2025 Limited Edition is a Danish Rum Liqueur based on a combination of the original Christmas rum and Mezclado's 10-year-old rum, bottled at 40% in a 70 cl bottle.

Where the original Jule Edition sits at 36%, the Limited Edition is turned up a notch in both strength and age. Blending the sweet, well-established Christmas recipe with an older, more cask-driven rum gives a version with more weight and complexity, without losing the recognisable Christmas character. Only 3,000 bottles were produced of this edition.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Vanilla and caramel, supported by dried fruit and a light oak note from the older rum.

    Palate

Full and round with caramelised sugar, coconut and a more pronounced spiciness than the original.

    Finish

Mez 1 is the first in Mezclado's popular Original series and is blended at the East Jutland spirits blendery in Løsning. In an old machine hall in Løsning near Vejle, rum from the other side of the Atlantic is reshaped into something new - no rules, no tradition, just good taste.

    Expert description

Mezclado Mez 3 is a Rum Liqueur from the Danish rum blendery Mezclado, bottled at 36%.

Mez 3 is the third release in Mezclado's original series, where rum imported in barrels from Spain and Panama is blended, spiced and bottled in Løsning. Behind the brand is Radoslaw Nowacki, a young entrepreneur who left an entirely different industry to pursue rum, driven by curiosity rather than tradition.

Mezclado deliberately breaks with the classic idea that good rum can only come from the Caribbean. Instead, barrels are imported from Spain and Panama and then composed together on Danish soil into a sweeter, more approachable style - a counterpoint to heavier, more geeky rum releases.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Soft caramel and brown sugar with a hint of tropical fruit.

Where Mez 1 leans on sweetness and fullness from Cuba and Panama, No 2 takes a drier path, blending Spanish and Dominican rum into a classic, oak-driven style.

    Expert Description

Mezclado No 2 is a Spain and Dominican Republic Danish Rum Blendery Rum, blended from rum aged 6 and 8 years and bottled at 40%.

The blend consists of 75% rum from the Dominican Republic and 25% rum from Spain, with the two components aged 6 and 8 years respectively before being combined at Mezclado's blendery in Løsning. Unlike the sweeter Mez 1, No 2 is designed as a classic, dry rum with pronounced oak character, spiced with a touch of sweetness that creates the balance.

The result is a dry, characterful rum, where oak and spice carry the flavour rather than pure sweetness.

    Expert description

Mezclado Prestige Edition is a Rum Liqueur from the Danish rum blendery Mezclado, bottled at 40%.

Prestige Edition is carefully composed from rum aged between 8 and 10 years from the Dominican Republic, blended with a high-quality Spanish rum. Expert description

Mezclado Drivkraft Edition is a Rum Liqueur from the Danish rum blendery Mezclado, bottled at 40%.

Drivkraft ("Drive" or "Momentum") is a rum that doesn't try to be complex for complexity's sake, instead focusing on warmth, sweetness and immediate charm. From Mpumalanga in South Africa comes a rum that smells more of a bonfire than a Caribbean beach. Mhoba does things its own, very hands-on way.

    Expert description

Mhoba American Oak Aged is a Pure Single Rum from South Africa, distilled from fresh sugarcane juice in agricole style and matured in American oak, bottled at 43%.

The rum comes from Mhoba Rum Distillery in Mpumalanga, founded by Robert Greaves, whose family has grown sugarcane at the foot of the Makhonwja mountains since the 1980s. Mhoba distils on a small scale directly from fresh sugarcane juice rather than molasses, giving a raw, earthy starting point. The rum is first matured in large glass demijohns with charred and cut American oak staves, before being moved to casks from South African whisky for a second maturation period.

    Expert Description

Mhoba Bushfire is a South African Single Estate Rum made from 100% fermented sugarcane juice and bottled at 55%.

Behind the bottle stands the Mhoba Rum Distillery in the Onderberg district of Mpumalanga, founded by Robert Greaves, whose family has grown sugarcane at the foot of the Makhonjwa Mountains since the 1980s. The entire process takes place on their own land, from growing organic sugarcane to fermentation, pot still distillation and hand-filling the bottle. Bushfire is a small batch release, where the rum matures on staves split from local sickle bush, a method inspired by the South African braai tradition, giving the rum its characteristic smoky profile.

    Expert description

Mhoba Select Reserve Glass Cask is a Pure Single Rum from South Africa, distilled from fresh sugarcane juice and matured over 2 years on charred American oak staves in large glass demijohns, bottled at 60%.

The rum comes from Mhoba Rum Distillery in Mpumalanga. Instead of traditional oak casks, Mhoba uses large glass demijohns filled with virgin American oak staves that are cut and charred over wood coals, a method that gives intense contact between spirit and wood without the cask's own breathing. The result is more balanced and refined than the house's American Oak Aged, yet still with a clear, powerful oak character.

    Item no.: 22227865377-8119

A powerful blend from three of Jamaica's most respected distilleries, bottled at navy strength as a tribute to the old naval rum tradition.

    Expert Description

Navy Island Rum Navy Strength Jamaica is a Jamaican Rum from multiple distilleries, bottled at 57%.

The rum is a blend of distillates from Hampden, Monymusk and Worthy Park, three of Jamaica's most respected producers, each contributing its own style to the overall character. Bottling at 57% follows the historic "navy strength" tradition, where rum was bottled strong enough that gunpowder could still ignite if it was doused in spilled rum aboard a naval ship.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Cherry wood, pineapple, papaya and guava with a hint of soy sauce, complemented by sweet vanilla, caramel and spicy oak, plus a wild Jamaican fruitiness of mango and jackfruit.

    Palate

Savoury marmalade is followed by a nutty finish, ripe bananas, vanilla and a round, warm texture with notes of chocolate and oak.

    Finish

Great intensity, fruity and slightly spicy, long and distinctly dry towards the end.
