The rum comes from the Uitvlugt distillery in Guyana, where it was distilled on the historic Port Mourant double wooden pot still, one of the most iconic and oldest still-operating distillation units in the world. After distillation, the rum first aged five years in Guyana's tropical climate before being moved to Denmark and continuing to age continentally for the rest of the 30 years. This transition from tropical to continental ageing gives the rum a different character than if it had remained in the tropics the whole way. Renegade Single Farm Origin Pre Cask Old Bacolet is a Grenada Rum, an unaged pot still rum distilled from fresh sugar cane juice from a single farm, Old Bacolet, harvested in 2020 and bottled at 50%.

Renegade Rum Distillery was founded by Mark Reynier, former owner of Bruichladdich and founder of Waterford Distillery, who brought his whisky philosophy of terroir to Grenada. The "Pre Cask" releases show the rum as it is straight from the still, without cask influence, to highlight how a single farm's soil, climate and location shape the flavour. Old Bacolet sits between two rivers on a clay-rich flood plain, a location that Renegade says has a huge influence on the finished distillate.

The result is a fresh, vegetal rum that shows the pure character of the sugar cane without wood's interference.

Renegade Single Farm Origin Pre Cask Pearls is a Grenada Rum, an unaged pot still rum distilled from fresh sugar cane juice of the Yellow Lady variety from a single field in the Pearls area, bottled at 50%.

Like the other Pre Cask releases from Renegade Rum Distillery, this bottle shows the rum straight from the still without cask influence, letting the field's pure character shine through. The cane was harvested from the field locally known as "Grapefruit", located on the Flats terroir, one of the areas Renegade tracks most closely in its work mapping how soil and location shape flavour. Only 1,632 bottles of this limited release were produced.

The result is a clear, oily and full-bodied rum with a distinct olive and pepper character reminiscent of a well-made agricole from Martinique.

Taiwan's first rum distillery sends its cane juice through 15 days of dunder fermentation and two long distillations, before it lands in a brand-new, heavily charred American oak cask called White Alligator.

Expert Description

Renaissance 2018 White Alligator Single Cask is a Taiwan Rum, distilled from Taiwanese sugar cane molasses and aged 3 years in a new American oak cask, bottled at 64.8%.

Renaissance Distillery, founded in 2017 by Olivier Caen and Linya Chiou, was the first rum distillery in Taiwan and has since built a name for high-ester, intense rum styles. This release undergoes a 15-day fermentation, where dunder is added to boost ester content, followed by two pot still distillations, first for 7 hours, then for 13 hours. The name White Alligator refers to the brand-new American oak cask with heavy char, where the characteristic cracked surface resembles alligator skin. Only 205 bottles were drawn from this single cask.

The result is an intense, high-ester rum with pronounced fruitiness and a powerful, spiced wood depth from the new cask.

RomDeLuxe selected cask number 8 for its Wild Series and bottled it at cask strength in March 2022, yielding only 248 numbered bottles. Doorly's 14 Year Fine Old Barbados is a Barbados Rum, a blend of pot and column distilled rum aged 14 years, mainly in ex-bourbon casks with a smaller portion in ex-madeira casks, bottled at 48%.

The brand is owned and produced by R.L. Seale & Company at Foursquare Distillery, one of Barbados' oldest and most respected rum houses, run by fourth-generation distiller Richard Seale. Doorly's 14 Year is a further development of the house's XO expression, with longer ageing and a strength of 48%, where the madeira casks add an extra layer of complexity to the classic Barbados profile.

As with all of Foursquare's releases, there's no added sugar or colouring, just rum, time and cask.
