The Latino rum from Mexico is aged under the solera system, which mixes new batches of rum with older rums.

Used raisin wine barrels are used for fermentation and blending to give El Ron Prohibido its “unique sweet and bitter notes, which distinguish it from all other rums”.

El Ron Prohibido was first transported to Spain in the 1600s in used wine barrels, before local producers in Spain persuaded King Felipe V to ban it
