About the Italian company Wilson & Morgan:The Italian Way to Scotland's Finest Whiskies "Anybody who loves whiskey can't be all bad." W.C. Fields (1880-1946) Since 1992, independent whisky bottler Wilson & Morgan has been offering an exquisite range of rare Scotch whiskies to whisky connoisseurs around the world. Wilson & Morgan selects only the best malts after 10 to 30 years of maturation. Some bottlings are also finished in port, rum or Marsala casks. These single malts are bottled at the peak of flavor and are sold in many parts of the world - and now also in Denmark. These bottlings are only available in selected specialty wine and spirits stores and Michelin-starred restaurants.

Robert Burns meets "The Merchant of Venice" "And fill them high with this generous juice, As generous as your mind, And pledge me in the Generous toast,The whole of human kind!" Robert Burns, Scottish Poet (1759 - 96) The history of Wilson & Morgan is closely linked to the history of the Rossi family of Venice. In the 1920s, Venice's historic role as a trading mecca began to fade. But wine and oil merchant Giuseppe Rossi, grandfather of Fabio Rossi, the current CEO of Morgan & Wilson, moved from Venice to the 'mainland' and settled in Treviso. Treviso is a beautiful and thriving city, 1½ hours from the "Laguna Venetia" and traditionally a favorite destination for the upper middle class from Venice in the summer. After World War II, Giuseppe's son - Mario Rossi - took over the business and developed the business positively in the tough post-war period. In the 1960s, growth was higher than ever and Mario Rossi decided the time was right to start importing whiskies from the 'home of whisky' - Scotland. Against the trend of the time, the first imported whiskies were blended whiskies and it took - even in Italy with its trained palates - almost 10 years before the Rossi house's customers began to demand a more complex taste. Therefore, in 1970, Mario Rossi started buying premium blended whisky directly from the Scottish distilleries. "I still remember the strong smell of peat in our house when I was a child," says Fabio Rossi, founder and director of Wilson & Morgan, and one of Mario Rossi's two sons. Both sons were taught the secrets of grocery shopping at an early age. In the 1980s, Mario Rossi and his two sons Fabio and Walter began to realize where the wind was blowing - and they started to present the "the King of Whiskies" to their customers - single malt - bottled independently. All single malt casks sourced in Scotland were personally selected by Fabio Rossi. Fabio is a trained oenologist - and studied winemaking in Conegliano, Italy. Fabio Rossi has a golden rule for his cask selection: "Trust your own taste and instinct!" - and it is thanks to this rule that Wilson & Morgan whiskies today are of solid quality and an exciting range of single malts. Marsala finish - an Italian invention - whisky with the taste of Florence! Wilson & Morgan combines Scotland's pride - malt whisky - with Italy's passion - when single malt is given a finish in selected Marsala casks. Trevisio is a small Italian town with a well-kept medieval centre just 30 min. from Venice. But as is often the case with small places - they have a big history. Once upon a time, Treviso was the vacation destination of choice for the rich and beautiful of Venice. That was when the town by the lagoon was still the center of the merchant empire. Today, beautiful houses, squares and an extraordinary number of banks adorn the city. It is also in this city that single malt with Masala finish is "invented".North meets South - A passionate affair A Scotsman stood in front of a judge. The judge said: "You've been brought here for drinking whisky."The Scotsman replied: "Okay, let's get started." "Let's get started" is a remark closely related to whisky. It has been heard many times in small huts and caves in the Highlands of Scotland during the reign of Henry VIII - and has driven the Scots to distill their fine national expression - single malt. And the same thought crossed Fabio Rossi's mind during a business trip to Sicily, where he tasted that island's special wine - Marsala. First and foremost, Marsala is a town in Sicily, founded by the Phoenicians 500 years before Christ. Marsala wine gained fame when British wine merchant John Woodhouse found it in his search for a better tasting and cheaper product than Port and Sherry. He found this 16%, sweet and deep red after-dinner wine called Marsala as the answer to his quest. Today, Marsala has long since taken pride of place among wine connoisseurs from all over the world - and especially in northern Italy, Marsala is preferred as an after-dinner drink. It wasn't a big step for Fabio Rossi to take when he saw the possibilities of combining the warm afterglow of well-aged Marsala wine and single malt Scotch whisky. "Let's get started" - and Fabio Rossi contacted producers of Marsala wine - buying the best casks available and bringing them to Treviso. From there, the casks were shipped to Scotland - and distributed to several Scottish distilleries. For a whole year, the single malt whisky rests in Marsala wood - giving the malt time to "suck the Marsala juice" out of the cask. The result of this long kiss is a single malt with a Marsala finish - which is, of course, a rarity.
