    Item no.: 22333-86988

Under the historic Old St. Croix name there is also a sweeter, fruitier branch of the range, where the rum heritage of the Danish West Indies is spiced with juicy orange.

    Expert Description

Old St. Croix Elixir Orange Grove is an Orange Liqueur based on rum, bottled at 40%.

The range carries the name Old St. Croix, the trademark pharmacist A.H. Riise used to market Danish West Indian rum 150 years ago, at a time when St. Croix was a Danish colony. In the Elixir editions, rum is blended with natural fruit flavour, and in the Orange Grove edition it is juicy orange that sets the tone, for a sweeter and more approachable style than the pure rum editions in the range.

The result is a sweet, fresh liqueur, where juicy orange peel meets a soft rum base and a lightly bitter finish.

  • Bottle of golden Spanish herbal liqueur from a Catalan monastery mountain
    Item no.: 2222786539-705566

From the monks' stomach remedy to Catalonia's pride - Aromes del Montserrat carries a recipe that has lived on Montserrat mountain for generations and still tastes of the twelve herbs picked locally.

    Ekspertens beskrivelse

Aromes del Montserrat Gran Licor is a Spanish herbal liqueur that, according to tradition, was originally developed by the Benedictine monks at Montserrat Monastery near Barcelona, bottled at 31% ABV.

The liqueur was originally made as a stomach remedy for private use among the monks, but has today become a commercial and popular Spanish speciality. The recipe is built on more than 12 different herbs and spices, including mint, cinnamon, aniseed and nutmeg from the Montserrat massif, though the full recipe remains a secret held by the producer.

    Smag

Aromes del Montserrat has a sweet, aromatic flavour with a complex spice profile in which the herbs play the leading role. The liqueur has a golden colour and is made through distillation in copper stills followed by natural ageing in oak casks, giving it a round, mellow character.

  • Henri Bardouin Pastis Grand Cru French Pastis from Forcalquier
    Item no.: 22227865479-130-HB

Forcalquier sits in the Haute-Provence, where lavender, wormwood and centaury grow wild across the dry slopes. The town carries the Site Remarquable du Goût designation. That is no accidental address for a distillery.

    Expert description

Henri Bardouin Pastis Grand Cru is a French Pastis produced at Distilleries et Domaines de Provence in Forcalquier and bottled at 45%.

More than 65 plants and spices go into it. They are harvested, macerated and distilled separately and only assembled at the very end. Some travel a long way: star anise from China, liquorice root from Syria, tonka bean, ginger, cardamom and cinnamon. Others are gathered around the distillery itself — wormwood and centaury from the Haute-Provence.

That volume of botanicals is what earns it the Grand Cru name. Where an ordinary pastis sticks to anise and liquorice, here a whole layer of spice sits on top and the sweetness has been pulled back. The house has been distilling aperitifs in Forcalquier for over a hundred years, and the Grand Cru arrived in 1990. It now sells in eighty countries.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Star anise and liquorice root sit at the bottom, but what you notice is cinnamon, cardamom and a sweet stroke of tonka bean. Behind them something dry and bitter from the wormwood.

    Palate

Broad and spiced. Ginger brings warmth, cinnamon brings sweetness without sugar, and liquorice root ties it together. Less cloying than most pastis.

    Finish

Long and herbal. Centaury and wormwood lay in a fine bitterness at the end, with the anise lingering behind it.

    Did you know?

The tonka bean in the recipe is the same one pastry chefs use to give custard a vanilla-like, almond-heavy aroma. In a pastis it is almost unheard of, and it is one reason Henri Bardouin tastes unlike anything else in the category.

  • Dusty vintage bottle with scratches and amber-orange liqueur
    Item no.: 2265481-30-Vintage11

A piece of German spirits history, stored away since the 1970s - this bottle is no longer produced, and only a single example remains.

Please note: the bottle dates from the 1970s and has been stored away for many years. It is sold as a collector's item, and the quality of the contents cannot be guaranteed. Scratches and marks may appear on the bottle.

    Expert's Description

Persico Peach Liqueur is a German Fruit liqueur based on peaches, bottled at 25% ABV.

This bottle comes from the German Spezialitäten-Brennereien Friedr. Schwarze and carries the designation "Alt-Berliner Spezialität" (Old Berlin Specialty). The Persico style dates back to around 1870, when it became a fixture of Berlin's bar and café culture as a stone-fruit liqueur flavoured with bitter almond and apricot kernel, and "Sauern mit Persico" - sour cherry liqueur served with Persico - was for decades a classic pairing in Berlin's taverns.

    Taste

The liqueur is a classic German stone-fruit liqueur with a sweet-tart peach flavour and a characteristic bitter-almond undertone typical of the style. As the bottle is over 50 years old and the storage conditions are not known in detail, the exact nuances of the flavour today may differ from a fresh bottle, and the quality of the contents cannot be guaranteed, as noted above.

    Specifications

Name: Persico Peach Liqueur Vintage Bottle
    Producer: Spezialitäten-Brennereien Friedr. Schwarze
    Region/Country: Berlin, Germany
Type: German Fruit Liqueur (Alt-Berliner Spezialität)
    Main Ingredients/Flavourings: Peaches, bitter almond
    ABV: 25%
    Size: 100 CL
Number of Bottles: Only 1 available
Edition: Vintage bottle from the 1970s, discontinued
Serving Suggestion: as a collector's item for the wine rack, or enjoyed carefully as a taste of German spirits history

    Investment Potential

Medium. The bottle is an authentic, discontinued collector's item from a production that no longer exists, which typically supports rising collector value over time. On the other hand, this is a single example rather than a large, documented run, and the bottle has visible scratches and marks along with a content quality that cannot be guaranteed - factors that weigh it down. Overall, the potential is assessed as medium, driven primarily by rarity and historical interest rather than a guaranteed increase in value.

    Did You Know?

Did you know the tradition "Sauern mit Persico" - sour cherry liqueur served together with a Persico peach liqueur - was a fixture of Berlin's tavern culture as early as around 1870? This bottle is a rare survivor from a later period of that same tradition.

Turks call it "lion's milk" - the name it earns when the clear Yeni Raki is mixed with water and turns milky white. It is Turkey's proud national drink, and Yeni Raki is its most iconic ambassador.

    Ekspertens beskrivelse

Yeni Raki is a Turkish anise spirit at 45% ABV, produced by Mey İçki in Turkey from distilled grapes and star anise.

Yeni Raki was introduced in 1937, then under the Turkish state monopoly Tekel, and has since been the country's best-selling raki, both at home and internationally. Following Tekel's privatisation in the 2000s, the brand passed to Mey İçki, which has been part of Diageo since 2011. Raki is made by first distilling grapes into a clear spirit base (suma), after which natural star anise is added during a second distillation in copper pot stills.
