A royal legend from the Loire Valley, where dark raspberries and blackberries met cognac, vanilla and honey.
Expert description
Chambord Liqueur Royale de France is a French Fruit liqueur based on black raspberries and blackberries, bottled at 16.5%.
According to legend, an early version of the liqueur was presented to King Louis XIV during a visit to Château de Chambord in the Loire Valley in the late 17th century, then spiced with exotic herbs as precious as gold. The modern version of Chambord was rediscovered in France in the late 1980s by the American Norton J. Cooper and is made today in the Loire Valley, where the berries are steeped together with fine XO cognac, Madagascar vanilla, Moroccan citrus peel and a touch of honey.
Taste
The nose is intense with dark berries, a hint of vanilla and a fine cognac warmth in the background. On the palate, Chambord Liqueur Royale de France is sweet and juicily berry-driven with notes of raspberry and blackberry jam, while the finish rounds off softly with vanilla and a touch of cognac.
