Mozart Chocolate is an Austrian chocolate liqueur with coffee from Mozart Distillerie in Salzburg, made from cocoa beans, Belgian chocolate, cream, and arabica notes, at 17% alcohol.

Mozart Distillerie was founded in Salzburg in 1954 and has since stuck to one discipline: chocolate liqueur. The house works with cocoa beans, Belgian chocolate, and vanilla, and the coffee edition is the one in the range where the roast is allowed to take centre stage. The producer itself calls the mocha note the carrying element.

The coffee isn't layered on top like syrup. It sits inside the chocolate and pulls the sweetness toward the bitter side, which is exactly why the bottle holds its own in an Espresso Martini without help from an extra coffee liqueur. The colour is medium brown with darker reflections, and the texture is creamy without becoming thick.

The liqueur is gluten-free and contains milk products. It has been awarded several times, including gold at the World Spirits Award 2022 and gold at the DLG International Award the same year.

Taste

The aroma offers freshly roasted coffee beans first, distinct and almost dry. Behind that comes dark cocoa, a touch of vanilla, and a small hint of orange peel. The taste is creamy and bittersweet at once, where the mocha fills the middle, Belgian chocolate sits underneath, and the roast provides the edge. Unicum Riserva Double Aged Herbal Liqueur is a Herbal Liqueur from Zwack, finished in Tokaji wine casks and bottled at 40%.

Unicum Riserva is the Zwack family’s super-premium take on the classic Unicum, and it stands apart through its double ageing process. The first stage takes place in the largest and oldest oak cask in Zwack’s cellar, a cask that over decades has developed a thick coating the family calls "black honey", lending the liqueur extra depth. From there, the herbal liqueur is moved into casks from Izabella Zwack’s Dobogó winery, previously used to age Tokaji wine. This gives Unicum Riserva a softer, more fruit-driven character, with a hint of dried apricot layered over the familiar bittersweet Unicum taste.

The Unicum name is said to date back to 1790, when the family’s court physician reportedly offered Emperor Joseph II his home-made herbal liqueur. The company itself was founded in 1840, and the round bottle with the red cross remains one of Hungary’s most recognisable spirits brands today.

The Pallini family has been making super-premium liqueurs since 1875, when Nicola Pallini founded the first shop and distillery in Antrodoco. After the First World War, his son Virgilio Sr. moved the business to Rome, close to the Pantheon, where it still stands today. The Limoncello is made from Sfusato Amalfitano, an elongated lemon variety from the Amalfi Coast with a thick, aromatic peel that ripens for up to 12 months and is so sweet it's locally nicknamed the "bread lemon", because it can be eaten like a piece of fruit. Harvesting, peeling and extraction all happen within 24 hours to preserve the lemons' freshness, after which the extract is transported to the distillery in Rome and blended with Italian beet sugar and additional lemon oil.

Maraschino Maraska Cherry Liqueur is a Croatian cherry liqueur made from Marasca cherries grown around Zadar, bottled at 32%.

The Maraschino tradition in Zadar dates back to the 1500s, when the city was under Venetian rule and Dominican monks first distilled the local Marasca cherry into a sweet, aromatic liqueur. In 1759, Venetian merchant Francesco Drioli began proper industrial production in the city, and through the 1800s several respected houses followed the same path, including Luxardo.

After the Second World War, Zadar's historic distilleries were nationalised and merged into a single company under the name Maraska, founded in 1945. Production still takes place at one of the city's former distillery sites, and the house continues a local Maraschino tradition that stretches back several hundred years.

The Marasca cherry is known for its concentrated, slightly tart flavour, and it is this fruit that gives the liqueur its deep cherry character and has made it a classic in bars and kitchens around the world.
