    Expert description

Ron Matusalem 15 Gran Reserva Solera is a Rum from the Dominican Republic, matured through the solera system and bottled at 40%.

The rum comes from Matusalem, a house originally founded in Santiago de Cuba and now producing in the Dominican Republic. The solera system, originally borrowed from sherry and brandy production, means the number 15 is not a fixed minimum age for every drop, but a reflection of the average maturation level in an ongoing blend, where no more than a third of each cask is drawn off every three months and replaced with rum from the level above. The result is a rum with a deep, layered sweetness and a surprising complexity for its price bracket.

  • Ron Matusalem Solera 7 Year El Ron de Cuba bottle
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197278490

Matusalem carries a Cuban rum heritage forward from the Dominican Republic, after the 1959 revolution forced the family to relocate the entire production.

    Expert Description

Ron Matusalem Solera 7 is a Dominican Republic Rum, distilled and aged through a solera system and bottled at 40%.

The Matusalem brand was founded in Cuba in the 19th century, but after the Cuban Revolution in 1959, the family moved production to the Dominican Republic, where it has continued ever since. Solera 7 is aged through the house's classic solera system, where rum of different ages is gradually blended across multiple tiers of casks to achieve a smooth, round character, still carrying the name "El Ron de Cuba" forward as a tribute to the brand's origin.

The result is a golden, versatile rum that works equally well neat and in cocktails.

    Item no.: 22227865419-8250

Cincuenta means fifty in Spanish, and the name refers directly to the bottle's strength: the most powerful release from Ron Millonario.

    Expert description

Ron Millonario 10 Aniversario Cincuenta is a Rum from Peru, based on the same recipe as the house's 10 Aniversario Reserva, but bottled at 50%.

The rum is a more intense and concentrated version of Ron Millonario's 10 Aniversario, built on the same secret blend of rum matured in ex-bourbon casks and ex-sherry Jerez casks from Hacienda Agricola in Chiclayo. The higher strength makes it the most powerful expression in Ron Millonario's range and well suited to cocktails that call for a more structured spirit. The bottle carries the same modern, elegant design as 10 Aniversario Reserva, but with a gold rather than black glass stopper.

    Tasting notes

Ten years is enough to warrant a celebration. Ron Millonario 10 Aniversario marks a milestone in the brand's history.

    Expert description

Ron Millonario 10 Aniversario Reserva Especial is a Rum from Peru, blended from 6-year-old distillate from a bourbon-cask solera and 10-year-old distillate from virgin American and Slavonian oak, bottled at 40%.

The rum combines two soleras of different ages and cask types, resulting in a well-balanced rum with layers of both fresh oak character and deeper, older distillate. Like the house's other rums, it comes from Hacienda Agricola in Chiclayo in northern Peru, where molasses from the Pomalca sugar mill is distilled on a 1930s Scottish column still.

Vinikunka - the mountain of seven colours in the Peruvian Andes - is the starting point for this bottle, named after the Inca rainbow goddess.

    Expert Description

Ron Millonario Kuytchi is a Rum from Peru, enriched with natural aromas of cocoa and "dulce de leche", bottled at 40%.

The bottle pays tribute to Ron Millonario's adventurous travels in Peru, which led the distillery to Vinikunka, the mountain known for its seven natural colour stripes. To honour Kuytchi, the Inca goddess of the rainbow, Ron Millonario created this release based on their rum foundation and enriched with cocoa and "dulce de leche" - the sweet, caramel-like milk cream widespread across South America. The result is a smooth, velvety rum meant to evoke the warmth of Peruvian sunshine.

Ron Millonario is known for its Peruvian solera ageing method, where rum of different ages is blended across multiple layers, a technique originally derived from sherry production.

Mahogany in colour and syrupy on the nose, this 15-year-old is the most mature edition of Ron Mulata de Cuba, the cigar lover's answer to an afternoon dram.

    Expert description

Ron Mulata de Cuba 15 Year Añejo is a Cuban Rum, matured for 15 years and bottled at 38%.

The rum comes from Cuba and carries the colour of mahogany with a hint of reddish-brown reflections, a clear sign of the long cask maturation. Ron Mulata is part of the broader Cuban rum tradition, where the style is built on softness and round, sweet notes rather than dryness and spice. The 15-year expression is the house's most matured release and highlights precisely the soft, creamy character that defines Cuban rum of this age.

    Expert description

Ron Mulata de Cuba Elixir de Cuba is a Spirit Drink based on Cuban rum blended with dark grapes and bottled at 34%.

The elixir is produced by Ron Mulata, Cuba's second best-selling rum brand, by adding small dark grapes to a long cask-matured rum base. This results in a sugar content exceeding the Cuban limit for the term rum, which is why it is correctly sold as a Spirit Drink. The style is sweeter and rounder than classic Cuban rum, intended to be enjoyed neat or in sweet mixes.

White rum can be far more than a neutral cocktail base. Santiago de Cuba Carta Blanca proves it with three years of cask maturation hidden behind the clear colour.

    Expert description

Ron Santiago de Cuba Carta Blanca is a Cuban Rum, matured for 3 years in oak casks and bottled at 38%.

The rum comes from Santiago de Cuba, one of Cuba's most respected rum houses, where the distillate matures in oak casks for three years before the colour is filtered out. This gives it a surprising depth and delicacy for a white rum, with honey, vanilla and cocoa notes normally requiring longer visible ageing. The style sits somewhere between a light, classic white rum and a more complex, cask-driven rum.

    Tasting notes

Ron Sostenible is built on a single principle: rum can be produced sustainably without compromising on flavour.

    Expert Description

Ron Sostenible Rum 8 Year is a Dominican Republic Rum aged for 8 years and bottled at 40%.

The rum is produced by A Clean Spirit at one of the world's most modern and sustainable distilleries in the Dominican Republic. CO2 from the fermentation process is captured in pressure tanks and reused for soda production, while vinasse from distillation is sprayed back onto the fields as natural fertiliser, and biomass is used as fuel for energy production. The rum is also transported by CO2-neutral sailing ships, and the bottles are made from recycled glass with cotton paper labels. Behind the principle lies the name Sostenible, Spanish for "sustainable".

    Expert Description

Ron Sostenible White Rum is a Dominican Blanco Rum, bottled at 40%.

The rum is produced by A Clean Spirit, the Dominican distillery that has made sustainability its trademark: CO2 from fermentation is captured and reused, vinasse from distillation is used as fertiliser, and production runs on biomass fuel. Transport takes place on CO2-neutral sailing ships, and the bottles are made from recycled glass with cotton paper labels. Unlike the house's aged releases, White Rum is the clear, unfiltered style, bottled shortly after distillation with no cask ageing, letting the pure sugarcane character take centre stage.

    Item no.: 2229-1106-1972

Rum Nation has been bringing home some of the world's most interesting rum casks to Italy since 1999, and this Barbadian Single Domaine release captures a vintage that today ranks among the house's older treasures.

    Expert Description

Rum Nation Barbados 2000 Limited Edition 8 Year Single Domaine is a Barbados Rum from a single source, aged for 8 years and bottled at 43%.

The rum is released by Rum Nation, the Italian independent bottler that has, since the late 1990s, specialised in seeking out and maturing rum from single countries and domaines rather than blending across origins. The Single Domaine designation means the rum comes exclusively from one particular source in Barbados, with no addition from other distillates. The rum was distilled in 2000 and aged for 8 years as a limited release, long before Rum Nation's later, better-known Barbados series.

The result is a classic Barbadian rum, where soft caramel and tropical fruit meet a lightly spiced, rounded finish.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Caramel, tropical fruit and a touch of vanilla.

    Palate

Rum Nation, founded by Fabio Rossi in 1999, imports rum distilled in Barbados and lets it continue ageing in the tropical climate to preserve the richness and intensity that can otherwise be lost through ageing in a colder climate. • Rum Nation Demerara Release Solera No 14 Rum 70 cl 40%
    Item no.: 22227865418-20119

The Demerara river runs thick and brown through Guyana, and the name has clung to the rum longer than anyone can remember. At Plantation Diamond stands the country's last distillery. The rest have closed, been dismantled, forgotten - but the casks and the recipes survived. It is from here the Italians at Rum Nation source the molasses distillate for their solera.

    Expert description

Rum Nation Demerara Solera No 14 is a Demerara Rum from Guyana, aged in ex-Bourbon casks with a 12-month further maturation in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks and bottled at 40%.

The rum is distilled from cane molasses at Demerara Distillers' Diamond Distillery, which today is the only remaining distillery in Guyana. Rum Nation blends distillate from pot still, which gives body and estery weight, with distillate from column still, which keeps the rum light enough to drink easily. The blend is built up in a solera system, where casks of different ages are continually topped up, so the expression stays consistent from bottling to bottling instead of carrying an age statement.

The main maturation happens in used American oak casks from Bourbon, which lay down vanilla and a creamy sweetness at the base. Then follows 12 months in fresh Sherry casks that have held Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez, and this is where the spice, the raisins and the dark chocolate come in. Finally a small proportion of very old Enmore rum is added, pulling the whole blend in a deeper, more estery direction. Colouring has been added.

Demerara Solera No 14 belongs to Rum Nation's core range and has been on the market for so many years that it now serves as a benchmark for what softer, semi-sweet Demerara rum tastes like.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Dark and a touch musty in a good way. Concentrated molasses first, then mocha, cola and white chocolate, with bergamot and a distinct hint of barbecue smoke behind it.

    Palate

Syrupy and velvety. Molasses, dark chocolate, coffee and raisins, spiced up with cinnamon, cloves, orange peel and black pepper. Towards the end it dries out and shows oak.

    Finish

Long and sweet, almost vermouth-like, with liquorice, aniseed and leather. Underneath the sweetness lies a bitter herbal note that lingers long after the last sip.

Jamaican rum is known for its funky, powerful character. Here it meets a gentler, wine-driven sherry finish.

    Expert description

Rum Nation Jamaica 5 Years Oloroso Sherry Finish is a Rum from Jamaica, distilled on pot still, matured 5 years and finished in Oloroso sherry casks, bottled at 50%.

The rum is distilled on pot still in pure Jamaican tradition, giving it the characteristic funky style Jamaica is known for. After initial maturation in ex-bourbon casks, the rum is moved to Oloroso sherry casks for 15 to 18 months, with a small portion also passing through Pedro Ximénez casks before the final blend is assembled. The sherry finish adds a wine-driven, raisin-tinged depth that softens and rounds the otherwise powerful Jamaican character.
