  • El Ron Prohibido 15 Year Mexico Solera Rum bottle
    Item no.: 22227865443-7010

Three extra years in the solera system makes a noticeable difference. Where the 12-year expression is wine-like and light, the 15-year goes deeper into coffee, dark chocolate and an almost dessert-like sweetness.

    Expert Description

El Ron Prohibido 15 Year is a Mexican Rum aged in a solera system and bottled at 40%.

Like its younger 12-year sibling, the rum comes from Ron Prohibido S.A. de C.V. at Ex-Hacienda Corralejo in Guanajuato, where it's aged in a solera system with casks that previously held wine, brandy and sherry. With three more years in the system, the 15-year expression pulls forward a deeper, more coffee- and chocolate-driven profile, where the wine-like sweetness of the younger expressions turns into something rounder and more dessert-like.

The solera system means every bottle carries traces of the very oldest vintages that have ever entered the system, giving a smooth continuity across the house's different age expressions.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Layered with wood, chocolate, vanilla, coffee and a hint of mint, where the coffee notes dominate with a surprising lightness.

    Palate

Full-bodied with caramel, raisins, dates, prunes and dark chocolate, carried by toasted oak and warm baking spices.

    Finish

Long, warm and silky with a perfect balance of sweet and spiced notes, ending on a final hint of coffee.

    Item no.: 22227865416-7203

There is hardly a mojito or daiquiri in the world that hasn't at some point been mixed with the white bottle bearing the bat. Carta Blanca is the very definition of white rum.

    Expert description

Bacardi Carta Blanca is a Rum from Puerto Rico, charcoal filtered for colour and bottled at 37.5%.

Bacardi was founded in 1862 in Cuba, but is today produced primarily in Puerto Rico. Carta Blanca is the house's original, light rum style, a white rum filtered through charcoal to remove colour and the heaviest flavour compounds, resulting in a clean, dry and light profile designed to be versatile rather than complex. It is this style that has made Bacardi the world's best-selling rum brand and a fixture in countless cocktails.

    Item no.: 22227865416-7201

There is a Bacardi most people know from the white label, and then there is Carta Negra, the dark expression that is not afraid to show teeth.

    Expert description

Bacardi Carta Negra is a Rum from Puerto Rico, matured for 4 years in charred oak casks and bottled at 40%.

The rum is charcoal filtered for smoothness, yet still retains a pronounced dark character thanks to maturation in charred oak casks. Unlike most of Bacardi's lighter classics, Carta Negra is built to carry weight and depth, with notes leaning towards molasses, coal and dark chocolate rather than the light, fruity style associated with the house's Carta Blanca and Carta Oro.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dark molasses, toasty oak, chicory, roasted almonds, passion fruit, cacao and pecan pie.

    Palate

Rich and full-bodied, with molasses, coal dust, dark fruit, roasted banana, dark chocolate and espresso.

Gold is not just a colour in this bottle's name. Carta Oro is the Bacardi expression bold enough to show a bit more character than its white little brother.

    Expert description

Bacardi Carta Oro is a Rum from Puerto Rico, blended from 14 different rums matured 1-2 years and bottled at 40%.

The rum is called "Oro" after the Spanish word for gold and was first produced in 1862. In the 1960s, Bacardi moved the bulk of its production to Puerto Rico, where Carta Oro today is blended from fourteen different rums to achieve a more pronounced flavour profile than the house's light Carta Blanca. It functions as a natural step up from the white classic, with more body without becoming a heavy, dark rum.

    Tasting notes

    Expert description

Rum Nation Jamaica 5 Years Oloroso Sherry Finish is a Rum from Jamaica, distilled on pot still, matured 5 years and finished in Oloroso sherry casks, bottled at 50%.

The rum is distilled on pot still in pure Jamaican tradition, giving it the characteristic funky style Jamaica is known for. After initial maturation in ex-bourbon casks, the rum is moved to Oloroso sherry casks for 15 to 18 months, with a small portion also passing through Pedro Ximénez casks before the final blend is assembled. The sherry finish adds a wine-driven, raisin-tinged depth that softens and rounds the otherwise powerful Jamaican character.

White rum can be far more than a neutral cocktail base. Santiago de Cuba Carta Blanca proves it with three years of cask maturation hidden behind the clear colour.

    Expert description

Ron Santiago de Cuba Carta Blanca is a Cuban Rum, matured for 3 years in oak casks and bottled at 38%.

The rum comes from Santiago de Cuba, one of Cuba's most respected rum houses, where the distillate matures in oak casks for three years before the colour is filtered out. This gives it a surprising depth and delicacy for a white rum, with honey, vanilla and cocoa notes normally requiring longer visible ageing. The style sits somewhere between a light, classic white rum and a more complex, cask-driven rum.

  • Trolden Stokers Copper No 3 miniature bottle of golden Danish rum
    Item no.: 22227865483-1003

Kolding is a long way from the Caribbean. Copper pot stills run there anyway, in a building on Nordager, where the new spirit goes into cask and sits through Danish weather year after year. Here in 5 cl, just enough to work out whether Danish rum is for you.

    The expert's description

Trolden Miniature Stokers Copper No 3 Distilled Danish Rum 5 cl 40% is a Danish Rum distilled in a copper pot still, matured in American oak casks and bottled at 40%.

The distillery shares its address and its building with Trolden Bryghus in Kolding, and spirit has been made on the site since 2011. The stills are hand-beaten pot stills holding only 350 litres, and those small runs are a large part of why the distillate turns out so round and almost oily in the mouth.

The new spirit goes into American oak and rests for several years before bottling. Cask sizes range from tiny eight litre barrels up to standard 200 litre casks, and the smaller ones give far more wood contact per litre. The result is a golden rum with clear vanilla and caramel, shaped by a short, cool Danish maturation season.

No. 3 is a small batch release. It is neither chill filtered nor coloured, so what you see in the glass came from the cask alone. This bottling is a 5 cl miniature, the easiest way to try a Danish rum before committing to a full bottle.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Vanilla and pale caramel, soft and close to dessert. A trace of dry oak and a hint of cocoa sit behind it.

    Palate

Round and oily in the mouth. Vanilla sweetness lands first, then caramel, and halfway through a note of chocolate and liquorice appears. The push is gentle and the alcohol stays in the background.

    Finish

Short to medium and warm. Liquorice hangs on as the sweetness pulls back, and the oak closes with a dry note.

The arithmetic behind a bottle of Danish rum is unforgiving. Around 700 litres of wash yields roughly 60 litres of new spirit at 63% at Trolden, and evaporation keeps taking its share every year the cask sits still. Numbers like those are why small batch means small batch.

  • Pusser's Gunpowder Proof British Navy Rum bottle
    Item no.: 22227865449-280

Before modern hydrometers existed, the British Navy tested rum strength by pouring it over gunpowder and lighting it. If the powder still ignited with a steady blue flame, the strength was correct. Gunpowder Proof is Pusser's tribute to that exact strength.

    Expert Description

Pusser's Gunpowder Proof is a Rum from Barbados and the British Virgin Islands, bottled at the original admiralty strength of 54.5%.

The rum is built on the same historic recipe as the house's standard British Navy expression, but is bottled at the precise "gunpowder proof" strength the navy used for its gunpowder test, back when alcohol meters didn't yet exist. The blend follows the admiralty's original recipe, as used until the Royal Navy officially discontinued the daily rum tot on 31 July 1970.

The higher strength gives a more concentrated flavour experience than the standard expression, with a deeper, more warming character that underscores the rum's roots as a spirit built to hold up on a ship for months at a time.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Pungent molasses, treacle, caramel, honey and vanilla, complemented by oak, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger.

    Palate

Full-bodied and robust with caramel, banana bread, spice cake and roasted nuts.

    Expert description

Havana Club Añejo Especial is a Cuban Rum, column distilled and matured for up to 5 years, bottled at 37.5%.

Three Caribbean "stars" meet in one glass – Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad each contribute their character to this versatile, clear rum.

    Expert Description

Planteray 3 Stars is a Blended Rum from Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad, carbon filtered and bottled at 41.7%.

The blend is named after the three "stars" of Caribbean rum production: Barbados and Jamaica contribute unaged rum, while Trinidad contributes a 3-year-old rum, and a 12-year-old Jamaican rum adds depth to the blend. All colour from the ageing process is removed through carbon filtration before bottling, giving the rum its clear, almost water-white appearance. Each island contributes its distinct character to the blend – from the lighter, refined Trinidadian style to the funkier, full-bodied Jamaican rum.
