The peat from Islay is different to other whisky regions in Scotland. It is the peat that gives Laphroaig its distinctive, familiar smoky flavor. Laphroaig is aged in American oak casks. www.whiskyflasken.dk Tasting notes from www.whiskyflasken.dk:Nose: Smoky and medicinal. Real Laphroaig! Dry grain or grass burning. Iodine, chlorine and tar. Smoked meat. There's also some salt and pepper in the nose, combined with some sweetness that I'm struggling to put into words, but it could be some baked green fruits. Vanilla. Really smoky, but nice nose. The taste: It starts off sweet and a little tart with flavors of apple juice. It actually feels a bit thin and it's quite subdued. There's vanilla and caramel before it becomes more maritime. Lots of salt and pepper hit the tongue and then some smoked seafood. The smoke starts to arrive and it becomes malty and a little dry.Aftertaste: Not the longest aftertaste, but lots of ash, charcoal and tar.A little malt sweetness. 84/100 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_ivP4xqeZo
