Frigate Jylland gets help from Glenfiddich By J. Nedergaard Oak is expensive to maintain A collaboration between Frigate Jylland and Glenfiddich aims to support the Frigate, the world's longest oak ship, which fights for survival every year. Oak is expensive to maintain. They know this both at Fregatten Jylland and at the family-owned Glenfiddich, the only malt distillery in Scotland with its own cooperage and cooperage makers.

The greatest Danish artists A large number of Denmark's best artists are each creating a unique work of art that will be exhibited and subsequently auctioned on Lauritz.com. Michael Kvium, Bjørn Nørgaard, Carsten Graabæk, Carl Crull, Poul Esting and Pia Schutzmann are just some of the artists who have donated their energy and creativity to the project. A total of 30 top Danish artists are in the process of decorating their own oak staff from a whiskyfad, which will subsequently be exhibited in Øksnehallen, Musikhuset Aarhus and at Fregatten Jylland. In October, the 30 works of art will be auctioned off via the auction house Lauritz.com for the benefit of Fregatten Jylland.

Bridge builder In 1886, the Frigate Jutland had been a royal ship for 12 years after its career as a warship. Then the oak-built sailing ship made its last voyage to the Danish West Indies. That same year, Glenfiddich Distillery was established and a new era had begun. The era where oak was no longer used to make warships, but was used to mature fine whiskey. Oak thus became the bridge from ship to whisky, and this connection is reflected in the stunning works of art, all created from oak staves from a Glenfiddich whiskyfad . Artistic challenges "The oak staves have been very inspiring to work with - a very different surface compared to the traditional white canvas", says Poul Esting - one of the 30 contributors to the project. "We artists have really been challenged. It's an exciting project, and I'm also happy to be able to contribute to preserving a piece of Danish cultural history." "It's fantastic to feel the support for the Frigate Jylland. We are honored that so many talented artists want to support the project," adds Benno Blæsild, Director of Fregatten Jylland, which is visited by 100,000 Danes every year. There have been no limits to the artistic expression on the oak staves, which measure approx. 100 x 12 cm. This has created a fantastic variety in the works.
It's not often you see Denmark's best artists exhibiting together, if at all. At the same time, the project gives Danes the opportunity to buy the exhibited works and have a piece of art in their private home.

Committed sponsors "Kunst på Fad", as the project is called on a daily basis, can be experienced at several exhibitions, after which interested parties can bid on the works on Lauritz.com. "We hope that together with the Danish population we can raise a great sum of money for the Frigate Jutland. A wooden ship that has been fighting for survival for many decades," says Jens Tholstrup, Product Manager at Glenfiddich and initiator of the project. 250 bottles of Glenfiddich Rich Oak Frigate Jylland Limited Edition In addition to contributing with ideas and oak staves, Glenfiddich is also creating 250 bottles of 14-year-old Glenfiddich Rich Oak (a fitting name for a project about preserving oak). In fact, you can already buy Glenfiddich Rich Oak in Denmark, but in connection with this project, 250 bottles will be dressed with a special hand-numbered Frigate Jutland label. The bottles will only be available at Fregatten Jylland.

There is no doubt that collectors will flock to this edition, as it is unique for a Scotch whisky distillery to get involved in this way, and for Glenfiddich in particular to make a limited batch of just 250 bottles; the proceeds from the sale of the bottles will also go to Fregatten Jylland.
The label designers worked for free, as did the people who applied the labels. Others have also wanted to support the cause with their help, including Blue Water Shipping, which has been responsible for the shipping of the rods, Lauritz.com, which is responsible for the auction, and the auditing company RIR.
