  • Ben Nevis 2012 Cadenhead's 13 years Original Collection Single Highland Malt
    Item no.: 22225390-7556

The Original Collection is the Cadenhead way of keeping quiet. No cask stories on the front, no series names with swords and mountains, just distillery, vintage and strength. The rest has to stand up in the glass.

    The expert's description

Ben Nevis 2012/2025 Cadenhead's 13 years Original Collection is a Single Highland Malt Whisky matured in bourbon hogsheads and Oloroso hogsheads and bottled at 46 % without chill filtration and without added colour.

The Original Collection is the standing range of the house, where the whisky is bottled at 46 % rather than at cask strength so it is ready to drink straight away. The series still uses neither colouring nor chill filtration, and the cask types are not hidden.

The two cask types pull in different directions. The bourbon wood gives the brightness and the sweet core, while Oloroso lays the darker, nuttier layers on top. Thirteen years is enough for the muscle of the Ben Nevis spirit to remain intact underneath the cask influence.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Biscotti and clootie dumpling, the Scottish steamed pudding full of dried fruit. Apricot marmalade and a sneeze of ginger on top.

    Palate

Walnut whip and golden syrup, soft and sweet, with spiced cardamom buns adding warmth and bite.

    Finish

Hazelnut and cocoa slide into blackcurrant, fading out on a dark, slightly bitter note.

    Investment potential

Medium. Cadenhead bottlings are made in limited parcels and not repeated, and the house has a steady following among collectors. Ben Nevis is also a distillery where independent releases are in demand, since official bottlings are few.

    Did you know?

Cadenhead moved from Aberdeen to Campbeltown in the 1970s, when J & A Mitchell, the owners of Springbank, bought the firm at auction. The stocks came along, and the house has bottled from the same site as the distillery ever since.

  • BenRiach 12 years Heart Of Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky bottle
    Item no.: 505956-807534-874

BenRiach ran for two years after opening in 1898 and then stood silent for sixty-five more. The floor maltings sat untouched the whole way through, and when the distillery finally started again in 1965 the plant was much as it had been built.

    The expert's description

BenRiach 12 years Heart Of Speyside is a Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in oak casks and bottled at 40 %.

Heart Of Speyside was the entry range of the distillery during the years under Billy Walker, who took over BenRiach in 2004 with a consortium and made the house a name in its own right after decades as a supplier to blends. The range was phased out when Brown-Forman bought the distillery in 2016 and reshaped the portfolio.

BenRiach sits near Elgin in Speyside and is one of very few Scottish distilleries to have kept its floor maltings. The house works with three different spirits, unpeated, peated and triple distilled, which is unusual for a single site.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Flower honey, ripe pear and a touch of vanilla. Behind it sit pale oak and cereal.

    Palate

Soft and malty with honey, apple and a lightly spiced edge. Forty per cent keeps it approachable the whole way.

    Finish

Medium, dry and malty with a last breath of oak.

    Investment potential

Medium. Heart Of Speyside was phased out after the 2016 change of ownership and is no longer made. Bottlings from the Billy Walker period have drawn increasing collector attention, since that is when BenRiach became a brand in its own right.

    Did you know?

BenRiach was closed from 1900 to 1965, but the floor maltings kept running for part of that time to supply malt to neighbouring Longmorn. That is why the plant still exists today.

  • BenRiach 2009 Cask Edition 11 years Oloroso puncheon Single Speyside Malt Whisky
    Item no.: 222555444-996321

Nineteen casks for the entire world. Rachel Barrie walked the warehouse and picked them one by one for the Cask Edition series, and the Danish importer got a share of two. This is one of them, cask number 8562.

    The expert's description

BenRiach 2009 Cask Edition 11 years is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky matured in an Oloroso sherry puncheon, cask no. 8562, and bottled at 58.9 % cask strength.

The Cask Edition Collection is the distillery own range of single casks, selected by Master Blender Rachel Barrie. Nineteen casks were chosen for the whole world and distributed to markets individually rather than as a single release.

The whisky went into cask on 8 May 2009 and was drawn after eleven years. A puncheon holds around 500 litres, the size of a butt, but it is shorter and wider, and the 693 bottles fit a cask of that type. The sherry is clear, but the 58.9 per cent gives it enough edge not to turn heavy.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dark fruit, candied orange and walnut with a deep sherry note. Behind it sit spiced oak and a little cocoa.

    Palate

Powerful and dense with raisin, dark chocolate and warm spice. The cask strength gives it bite, and the sherry fills out without turning sticky.

    Finish

Long and warm with dried fruit, nut and a dry close of oak.

  • BenRiach 2010 Mossburn Vintage Casks 11 years PX hogshead Single Speyside Malt
    Item no.: 059763-615-132

Sixty-two point five per cent. That is not a figure you arrive at by accident after eleven years, and it means the cask stood dry and cool the whole way. Not a drop of water has been added, and you notice from the first sip.

    The expert's description

BenRiach 2010/2022 Mossburn Vintage Casks 11 years is a Single Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a refill Pedro Ximenez hogshead and bottled at 62.5 % cask strength without chill filtration and without added colour.

Vintage Casks is the Mossburn range for single casks, where the wood is selected by Master Blender Neil MacLeod Mathieson. The whisky went into cask on 1 December 2010 and was drawn on 7 November 2022, and the cask yielded 310 bottles.

A refill Pedro Ximenez cask is an interesting decision. First fill PX can easily take over a whisky with its heavy sweetness, but a cask used before gives more sparingly and lets the malty core of BenRiach come through. The bottling is exclusive to Whisky.dk.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dark fruit, raisin and brown sugar with a powerful alcohol warmth on top. Behind it sit malt and spiced oak.

    Palate

Very powerful and concentrated with prune, date and dark chocolate. The sweetness of the PX cask meets a warm, almost peppery edge.

    Finish

Very long and warm with dried fruit, spice and a dry close.

High. Three hundred and ten bottles from a single cask, released exclusively to one market, is a combination that cannot be repeated. The Mossburn Vintage Casks are made in small runs and disappear again quickly.

    Did you know?

Pedro Ximenez is the sweetest of the sherry styles, made from grapes dried in the sun before pressing. The sugar content is so high that the wine is close to syrup, which is why PX casks leave such a clear mark on whisky.

  • BenRiach Dràm Mòr 10 years PX Finish Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
    Item no.: 22293-0235dmbr

One hundred and ninety-nine bottles. That is what came out of the one cask Dràm Mòr bought, and it is enough to fill a single shelf in a single shop. Scottish micro bottlers work at that scale, and it is their entire reason for existing.

    The expert's description

BenRiach Dràm Mòr 10 years PX Finish is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky finished in a 1st fill PX sherry hogshead and bottled at 55.5 % without chill filtration and without added colour.

Dràm Mòr is a small Scottish bottling house run by Viktorija and Kenny Macdonald from Glasgow. They buy single casks, often give them a finishing period in selected wood and bottle them at cask strength without adjustments. This cask gave 199 bottles.

The finish in first fill PX is short enough that the fruity character of BenRiach still fills the glass. It is a different approach from long sherry maturation, and the result reads cleaner and fruitier than a PX cask normally suggests.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Like a Sunday at Christmas with an assortment of chocolate treats, where the marshmallows carry a small hint of dark liquorice.

    Palate

Fruitier and cleaner than you would expect from a BenRiach with a PX finish. The sweetness is there, but it sits beneath the fruit rather than on top of it.

    Finish

Remarkable, with impressive length and character that hangs on and extends the pleasure.

    Item no.: 22227865480-67093-0389

Smokestack Lightning is a Howlin Wolf song from 1956 about a train passing in the night. Uncharted borrowed the name for a cask of peated BenRiach, and it is hard to think of a better image for whisky that rushes past and leaves a smell in the air.

    The expert's description

BenRiach Smokestack Lightning 2009/2023 Uncharted Whisky Co. 13 years is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in an ex-bourbon hogshead and bottled at 53.4 % without chill filtration and without added colour.

The whisky was distilled in 2009 and drawn in 2023 after thirteen years. The label calls it Highland, which is correct in the formal sense, since Speyside falls administratively within the Highland region. BenRiach sits at Elgin in the middle of Speyside.

Uncharted Whisky Co. is a younger Scottish bottling house that names its releases after music rather than after cask numbers. An ex-bourbon hogshead gives bright sweetness and lets the peated malt stand out clearly, which is a more direct approach than wrapping the smoke in sherry.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dry smoke, lemon peel and vanilla. Behind it sit pale cereal and a suggestion of ash.

    Palate

Powerful and dry with smoke, honey and spiced oak. The bourbon cask gives sweetness, but the smoke is allowed to lead.

  • Benrinnes 2006 Berry Bros Single Cask Speyside Malt Whisky bottle
    Item no.: 22227865449-18224

One cask, ten years, and one of London's oldest wine merchants as the sender. Berry Bros & Rudd have traded spirits from the same address on St James's Street since 1698, and their whisky range shows the hand of people who have had plenty of time to learn how to taste.

    The expert's description

Benrinnes 2006/2017 Berry Bros 10 years is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a single cask and bottled at 46 %.

Cask no. 309927 was filled in 2006 and emptied in 2017 for Berry's Own Selection. The whisky is neither chill filtered nor coloured, and 46 % was chosen because that strength keeps the texture intact without drowning the spirit.

Ten years is long enough for the heavy Benrinnes distillate to settle its fruit and vanilla, but not so long that the oak takes over. The distillery's own character stands at the front here — which is precisely the point of a single cask.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh pear, lemon peel and vanilla custard. Underneath sits a lightly waxy note and a hint of freshly cut grain.

    Palate

Oily and malty with yellow apples, honeydew melon and a sprinkle of white pepper. The 46 % gives a fine mouthfeel without burning.

    Finish

Medium long, clean and lightly spiced with malt biscuit and a touch of citrus oil.

    Item no.: 059763-615-687

Three years in a first fill Pedro Ximénez cask is not a finish, it is a rebuild. Fabio Rossi let the cask work until the whisky had ended up somewhere entirely different from where it started — dark, mature and almost wine-like in its sweetness.

    The expert's description

Benrinnes 2009/2023 Wilson & Morgan 14 years is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a refill hogshead, finished in a Pedro Ximénez cask and bottled at 57 %.

Cask no. 306993 was filled in 2009, first rested in a refill hogshead and then spent 36 months in a first fill Pedro Ximénez cask before being emptied in 2023. It produced 267 bottles in the Barrel Selection range.

Wilson & Morgan was founded in 1992 by Fabio Rossi in Treviso, and the Rossi family has traded in spirits in the Veneto since the 1920s. The house's signature is long secondary maturation in active casks — an Italian approach where whisky is handled with the same logic as wine.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Very organic and almost farmyard at first, with overripe plums, fig and raisin on top. A clear wine streak runs across the whole thing.

    Palate

Rich and dark with Pedro Ximénez up front: dates, dark syrup and pumpernickel. The meaty core of the spirit pushes back against the sweetness, and the 57 % gives the whisky a warm, spiced middle.

    Finish

Very long and sweet with raisin, dark chocolate and a lightly bitter oak note at the end.

    The expert's description

Benrinnes 2011/2022 Adelphi Selection 11 years is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky bottled as a single cask at 56.2 % full cask strength.

Cask no. 305256 was filled in 2011 and emptied in 2022, yielding 341 bottles. The whisky is neither chill filtered nor coloured, and Adelphi bottle, as always, without reduction.

Adelphi was revived as an independent bottler in 1993 and today owns Ardnamurchan Distillery on the west Highland peninsula of the same name. Casks are selected by a nosing panel chaired by whisky writer Charles MacLean, and only a fraction of the casks tasted reach the bottle.

Same June day in 2012, same distillery, same bottler — but an entirely ordinary bourbon hogshead. Here you get Benrinnes without cask tricks: clean spirit, ten years and full strength.

    The expert's description

Benrinnes 2012/2023 Signatory Vintage 10 years is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a bourbon hogshead and bottled at 58.9 % cask strength.

Cask no. 310545 was filled on 25 June 2012 and emptied on 12 January 2023. The cask yielded 275 bottles, and the whisky is neither chill filtered nor coloured.

A hogshead of roughly 250 litres is built from the staves of American bourbon casks, reassembled in a slightly larger format. It strikes a balance between cask influence and spirit character that suits a heavy distillate like Benrinnes' well.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh and grainy with green apples, lemon peel and a hint of newly cut hay. The vanilla sits discreetly beneath the fruit.

    Palate

Powerful and clean. Barley, honey and pear meet a peppery warmth from the alcohol. There is a rich, almost waxy texture that holds on to the flavour.

    Finish

Long, dry and grainy with white pepper and a puff of citrus.

    Item no.: 222093-55885

Dechar and rechar is a violent treatment: the charred layer is scraped away and the wood is burned again. The cask gets a new life, and the whisky gets a toasted sweetness you will not find in ordinary bourbon wood.

    The expert's description

Benrinnes 2012/2023 Signatory Vintage 10 years Dechar Rechar is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a dechar/rechar bourbon hogshead and bottled at 58 % cask strength.

Cask no. 310542 was filled on 25 June 2012 and emptied on 1 March 2023, yielding 270 bottles. The whisky is neither chill filtered nor coloured.

The treatment removes the burnt inner layer of the cask, exposing fresh wood which is then charred anew. That gives a far more active surface than an ordinary refill cask, and in ten years the whisky draws vanilla, toasted sugar and spiced oak from the wood.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Warm bourbon notes with vanilla, toasted oak and caramelised sugar. Beneath the sweetness sit baked apples, citrus oil and a hint of malt biscuit.

    Palate

Intense, full and oily. Vanilla pod, burnt sugar and spiced oak meet the heavy core of the spirit. The 58 % gives structure, and a few drops of water open a fresh fruit centre.

    Finish

Long and warm with toasted wood, malt and a subtle spiced edge that lingers.

    Item no.: 22227865480-67093-0380

Tawny port is an old and nutty affair — years in wood, where the fruit has dried down to fig and caramel. Let a heavy Speyside mature in one of those casks and something happens that sherry cannot deliver.

    The expert's description

Benrinnes 2013/2023 Lady of the Glen 10 years is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a first fill Tawny Port cask and bottled at 57.8 % cask strength.

Cask no. 300746 was filled on 15 January 2013 and emptied on 14 April 2023. The release yielded 282 bottles and is neither chill filtered nor coloured.

Lady of the Glen was founded in 2012 by Gregor Hannah and is run from Fife. The house bottles single casks at cask strength only and seeks out casks from closed distilleries or casks with an unusual expression — one such as this.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Red berries, dried fig and a touch of rose petal. The port gives a sweet, almost perfumed nose sitting on top of the dryness of the malt.

    Palate

Full bodied and sweet with cherry, walnut and dark caramel. The 57.8 % brings warmth, and a clear tannin edge from the port cask runs through the middle.

    Finish

Long with dried fruit, cocoa and a lightly bitter nuttiness.

Tawny port matures in wood until the colour shifts from red to golden brown — hence the name. A 20 year old tawny can have rested so long that the cask, once filled with whisky, is already deeply marked by dried fruit.

    Item no.: 22227865479-110-98

Eleven years in a first fill ex-bourbon barrel is the simplest recipe there is. No finish, no detours — just an active cask and a spirit big enough to carry it.

    The expert's description

Benrinnes 2013/2025 Lady of the Glen 11 years is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a first fill ex-bourbon barrel and bottled at 56.4 % cask strength.

Cask no. 311808 was filled in 2013 and emptied in 2025, yielding 214 bottles. The whisky is neither chill filtered nor coloured.

Where the house's 10 year old from 2013 was given a spell in Tawny Port, this one is kept purely in bourbon wood. That makes it a rare and honest portrait of what the Benrinnes spirit looks like when nothing is trying to dress it up.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Vanilla, coconut and light honey. Behind the sweetness sit ripe pears and a hint of a warm bakery.

    Palate

Full and creamy with vanilla pod, banana and spiced oak. The 56.4 % gives a firm but rounded bite, and the texture is clearly oily.

    Finish

Long and warm with honey, oak and a sprinkle of white pepper.

    Item no.: 22227865469-402

Fifteen years exclusively in first fill casks is an expensive decision. Benromach took it anyway, and the whisky carries the result: dark fruit, black pepper and a thread of smoke that never quite lets go.

    The expert's description

Benromach 15 years is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured exclusively in first fill sherry and bourbon casks and bottled at 43 %.

The whisky is neither chill filtered nor coloured. Using first fill casks for the full fifteen years is unusual — most distilleries mix in refill wood to keep the oak from taking over.

Benromach reopened in 1998 after fifteen silent years, so the 15 year old is among the first releases distilled entirely under Gordon & MacPhail's stewardship. It shows the house style at full length.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Forest fruits, apple and dark chocolate with cracked black pepper on top. The sherry is rich, and a puff of smoke drifts across the whole thing.

    Palate

Creamy and nutty with almond, roasted malt and orange peel. Sherry sweetness meets a dry spiced edge, and a hint of peat smoke still sits in the middle.

    Expert description

Big Peat Feis Ile 2018 is a limited edition of the Islay blend, created specifically for the 2018 Fèis Ìle festival, bottled at 48%. Big Peat was launched in 2009 by independent bottler Douglas Laing & Co as the first in the company's 'Remarkable Regional Malts' series. The idea was to create the 'ultimate distillation of Islay' by blending single malt whisky from several of the island's distilleries, including Caol Ila, Bowmore and Ardbeg, without using grain whisky. Big Peat is non-chill filtered, with no colouring added. Each year Douglas Laing releases a Christmas Edition of Big Peat at natural cask strength, and at Islay's Fèis Ìle whisky festival, special limited editions are regularly released.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers smoke, peat and a hint of sea salt.

    Item no.: 505956-807534-846

A whole island is folded into this bottle. Not as a claim on the label, but as a note that lingers after the glass is empty. Black Bottle with a heart of Islay — that was the promise, and it held.

    Expert description

Black Bottle "With A Heart Of Islay" 10 Years is a Finest Blended Islay Malt Scotch Whisky bottled at 40%.

This is the green bottle from the years before the relaunch, when Black Bottle still carried the Islay line straight on the label. The recipe drew malt from every Islay distillery operating at the time, tied together with grain whisky and a running seam of peat smoke. The expression has since been discontinued, which has made it one of the more sought-after older Black Bottle releases.

Ten years of maturation settles the blend. The smoke is still there, but it has had time to sink into the malt sweetness rather than stand apart from it. The Aberdeen house of Gordon Graham & Co. created the blend in 1879, and this release sits closest to the smoky style the house built its name on.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh and lightly fruity at first, with yellow apples and a twist of lemon peel. Underneath sits a clear but unhurried peat smoke and a hint of wet seaweed.

    Palate

Honey and malt fill the palate first, soft and almost round, until the smoke rises from behind with soot, black pepper and a touch of salt.

    Finish

Long and warming. The Islay character arrives last and stays put alongside dried grain and ash.

Some bottles become interesting because they disappeared. This version of Black Bottle 10 Years was pulled from the shelves when the brand changed its clothes — and only afterwards did people realise what they had been keeping.

    Expert description

Black Bottle 10 Years Old Version is a Blended Scotch Whisky bottled at 40%.

Old Version refers to the bottle shape and label used before the brand relaunch. Both the packaging and the age statement have been retired, and the whisky is no longer produced in this form. The blend is built on Islay malt as its load-bearing element, joined by malt from the rest of Scotland and grain whisky.

The colour is rich and golden, and the profile leans on peat smoke and honey rather than cask spice. Ten years give the blend the roundness that keeps the smoke from ever standing alone.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Light, fresh and fruity on first approach, with unmistakable hints of peat underneath. Baked apple and a waxy grain note follow.

    Palate

A gentle honey sweetness fills the palate before the signature smoke settles over everything. Malt, dried fruit and a touch of peppery warmth.

    Item no.: 22227865363-265

There are small flakes at the bottom of the bottle. That is not a fault — it is the whole point. Raw Cask means the whisky has gone from cask to glass without being cleaned up in any way.

    Expert description

Blackadder Raw Cask Peat Reek 2016 is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky from a single Oak Hogshead, bottled at cask strength, 61.8%.

Peat Reek is Blackadder's series for peated Islay whisky where the distillery name is withheld. Robin Tucek, who runs the house, has consistently kept the source confidential, but the series name leaves little doubt about what waits in the glass. Cask PR2016-2 yielded 279 bottles, and the whisky is neither chill filtered nor coloured.

Raw Cask is the house signature: filtration is coarse enough only to hold back the largest pieces of wood. Everything else comes along, including the particles and sediment that settle in the bottle over time. The method produces an unusually thick, flavour-saturated whisky.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dry peat smoke and heather, with lemon peel, salted caramel and a trace of iodine underneath. Cask strength makes the aroma sharp and penetrating.

    Palate

Massive and oily. Soot, black pepper, toasted barley and a honeyed sweetness fighting the smoke for room.

Eight years does not sound like much, but on a light Lowland spirit it is enough. The bourbon cask has had time to set vanilla and fudge in place without smothering the freshness that makes the style recognisable.

    Expert description

Bladnoch 8 Years is a Single Lowland Malt Whisky matured in refill bourbon casks and bottled at 46%.

This is an older version of the distillery's eight year old, a bottle from before the current range was built. Refill bourbon casks were chosen precisely so as not to drown the spirit, and the result is soft and round with plenty of sweetness.

Bladnoch sits in Galloway and is Scotland's southernmost distillery. The house works with unpeated malt and a pale spirit style, where bourbon casks have traditionally formed the backbone of the range.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Vanilla and fudge first, then fresh apples, a little coconut and a light grainy sweetness.

    Palate

Soft and round with caramel, vanilla and white fruit. The 46% gives it enough body to keep the sweetness from flattening out.

New oak is a risky thing to hand a light Lowland malt. Use too much and the spirit vanishes into sawdust. Liora finds the spot where oak adds spice instead of taking over.

    Expert description

Bladnoch Liora is a Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in Ex-Bourbon and New Oak and bottled at 52.2% without chill filtration and without added colour.

The combination of refill bourbon casks and new American oak is chosen to set the distillery's fresh apple character against toasted caramel and spice. New oak gives up considerably more tannin and vanillin than a refill cask, which is why it is usually used in smaller proportions.

Liora belongs to Bladnoch's named series, where the age statement is dropped in favour of the cask make-up. The high bottling strength is part of the concept and makes the whisky more concentrated than the Lowland style normally is.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh cut apples with toasted caramel and a floral note on top.

    Palate

Caramelised apples with spice and freshly cut oak. The strength carries everything and gives the whisky a weight unusual for the region.

  • Blair Athol Dram Mor single cask bottle
    Item no.: 22227-0235dmba

A refill bourbon barrel rarely promises much. This one kept its cards close for eleven years and then delivered a dram that tastes of far more than the paperwork suggests.

    Expert description

Blair Athol 11 Years Dram Mor is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky from Refill Bourbon Barrel #308610, bottled at cask strength, 56%.

The bottler Dràm Mòr buys single casks and bottles them without blending. This cask gave 305 bottles, which fits a single barrel, so the entire run comes from the same wood and the same day at the distillery.

Blair Athol sits in Pitlochry in the Highlands and is best known as the backbone of the Bell's blend. The distillery's own spirit is heavy and lightly nutty, and it does well in a quiet refill cask where the house character has room to show.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Very fresh with a surprising note of prunes. A trace of honey syrup, sweet green grapes, a hint of blue cheese and lilies.

    Palate

Cool, syrupy and lightly spiced with a full mouthfeel that coats everything in spiced butter. Far more than a refill bourbon barrel normally offers.

    Finish

Bright, soft and clean with a lasting play of honey, warmth and gentle bitterness.

  • Blair Athol Adelphi Selection bottle with plain label
    Item no.: 22227865438-19853

288 bottles for the entire world, and very few of them reached Denmark. Adelphi picks casks by taste rather than by name, and a first fill bourbon barrel from Blair Athol is exactly the kind of find the house is known for.

    Expert description

Blair Athol 2011/2024 Adelphi Selection 13 Years is a Single Highland Malt Whisky from First Fill Bourbon Barrel #305319, bottled at cask strength, 58.3%, unfiltered and without added colour.

Adelphi was founded as a distillery in Glasgow in 1826 and returned in modern times as an independent bottler. The house is known for tasting its way to single casks and bottling them without compromise, and the same philosophy sits behind the Ardnamurchan distillery Adelphi built in 2014.

The cask gave 288 bottles after thirteen years, which points to a barrel with normal evaporation. First fill American oak gives the whisky pronounced vanilla and coconut, which Blair Athol's heavy spirit has the body to carry.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Vanilla and coconut with baked banana, honey and a layer of freshly planed oak.

    Palate

Powerful and sweet with caramel, tropical fruit and a core of malt. The alcohol brings warmth without burning through.

    Finish

Long and sweet with vanilla, oak and a dry, spiced close.

  • Blair Athol Signatory port cask bottle with reddish whisky
    Item no.: 05955-88963

Ruby port is the youngest and most fruit-driven of the ports, and a cask that has held it gives colour straight away. Here it has spent thirteen years with a Highland spirit built to take it.

    Expert description

Blair Athol 2011/2025 Signatory Vintage 13 Years is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky from a First Fill Ruby Port Hogshead, bottled at cask strength, 57.7%, without chill filtration and without added colour.

The release belongs to Signatory Vintage's Cask Strength Collection and comes from a single cask. First fill port casks are forceful and give colour, acidity and dark fruit, which can overwhelm a light spirit — but Blair Athol's heavy, malty style has the weight to stand its ground.

Full maturation in a port cask combined with a high bottling strength gives a whisky with clear vinous character and a velvet texture, where sweetness and spice pull in opposite directions.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Black cherries and fruit preserve with hazelnut caramel and a hint of ginger.

    Palate

Full and sweet with port-soaked sponge cake, strawberry jam, candied orange peel and dark chocolate.

    Finish

Long and warm with dark berries, spice and a dry, chocolatey close.

Port casks for whisky are rarer than you might think. Port is traditionally aged in very large vessels used over and over, and the smaller casks the whisky industry can use are often made for the purpose.

    Item no.: 22227865395-8970-010

The golden, more powerful edition of the world's first modern single-barrel bourbon.

    Expert description

Blanton's Single Barrel Gold Edition Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a more powerful version of the iconic single-barrel concept, bottled at 51.5%. Blanton's is named after Colonel Albert Bacon Blanton, who started as an office boy at the Buffalo Trace distillery at age 16 and became the company's president in 1921, a role he held until 1952. He personally selected the best 'honey barrels' from Warehouse H for his guests and bottled whiskey one barrel at a time. In 1984, master distiller Elmer T. Lee honoured him by launching the world's first modern single-barrel bourbon, based on barrels from that same warehouse.

  • Bowmore Aston Martin 10 Year Masters Selection Islay Single Malt Whisky limited edition
    Item no.: 22233-754

British precision meets Islay peat. Bowmore and Aston Martin — two brands rooted in craft, pace and tradition — found each other in a limited edition that tastes better than it sounds.

    Expert's description

Bowmore Aston Martin 10 Year Masters Selection is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in Spanish sherry casks and hogsheads and bottled at 40%. The product of a collaboration between Islay's oldest distillery and the iconic British car manufacturer Aston Martin. The Masters Selection series is presented in 1-litre bottles, matured for 10 years in a combination of Spanish sherry casks and classic hogsheads — a mix that delivers unusual depth for the age. The sherry-led character and the Islay peat that is always present in Bowmore create an interplay between dark fruit and coastal air that works well. At 40% and 1 litre, this is not a cask strength collector's bottle — it's a whisky made to be drunk.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dried fruit and chocolate, peat and a light medicinal note. Behind it, dusty oak, bonfire embers and toffee.

    Taste

Fruity and silky textured with light peat smoke. Citrus, dark chocolate and sherry from old casks, alongside a hint of hazelnut and caramel.

    Finish

Medium length, warming and gently smoky. A touch of dark coffee and dried orange peel.

Two casks, two wood species, one original whisky. Quercus I Robur is High Coast's experiment with European oak as a finish, a rare chance to taste what the wood species itself means for an otherwise identical whisky.

    The Expert's Description

Box Whisky Quercus I Robur is a Swedish Single Malt Whisky finished in French oak and bottled at 50.8%.

The whisky was distilled between 3 and 12 October 2012 and matured for 4.1 years in first-fill bourbon casks, before receiving a 7-month finish in casks of Quercus Robur, the European oak species traditionally used in French and Spanish cask production. Only 8,229 bottles were released in September 2017.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Spiced oak and a dry, lightly tannic aroma, clearly different from the sweeter American casks.

    Palate

Full-bodied with tones of dried spice, walnut and a light bitter-sweet balance, showing the tighter character of European oak.
