  • Bottle of Arran 10 Year Old Whisky from Lochranza Distillery on the Isle of Arran
    Item no.: 22227865466-18271

Ten years is where many whisky drinkers first really meet Arran — an age-appropriate, easy-to-grasp introduction to the distillery's style.

A combination of mostly bourbon and a smaller sherry component that shows the breadth of Arran's character.

    Expert Description

Arran 10 Year Old is a Single Islands Malt Whisky matured mostly in American bourbon casks with a smaller share of sherry casks, bottled at 46%.

Around 60% of the whisky comes from bourbon casks, with the rest sherry-matured, giving a balance between bright fruitiness and a deeper sweetness. The classic citrus tone Arran is known for comes through clearly across both cask types.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Sweet vanilla, banana, melon and cocoa.

    Palate

More complex aromas with a deep character that never covers up the classic citrus tone.

  • Bottle of Arran Whisky finished in Pinot Noir wine casks from the Isle of Arran
    Item no.: 222596-1996633

An island full of wild ripe berries, sea air and a trace of Burgundy. It's not an obvious combination — but Arran isn't an obvious distillery either.

A vintage bottling from 1999, finished in Pinot Noir wine casks and bottled exclusively for the Danish trade market.

    Expert Description

Arran 12 Year Old 1999 Vintage Pinot Noir Wine Cask is a Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in ex-bourbon casks and finished in Pinot Noir wine casks, bottled at 46%.

The Isle of Arran sits in the Firth of Clyde west of Glasgow and is often described as Scotland in miniature. The Lochranza distillery opened in 1995 and is the island's only one, after British excise authorities shut down the last legal distillation in the 1800s. This 1999 Vintage was distilled in 1999 and bottled in 2011 after 12 years in cask, made exclusively for the professional Danish whisky trade. The whisky began its life in ex-bourbon casks, Arran's primary maturation wood, before receiving a finish in Pinot Noir wine casks — a grape with light tannins, red berry notes and a lightly earthy edge that leaves a clear mark without taking over from the whisky.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Ripe red berries, macerated cherry and a touch of grape juice, followed by spices such as star anise, cinnamon and white pepper, with a clear and pleasant malted sweetness and a trace of salted island character.

    Palate

Silky and lightly oily with clear fruitiness — grape, red berries, fermented apple and a peppery edge, tied together by caramel sweetness and vanilla.

    Finish

Medium to long, spiced, with dryness from the wine cask and a warm island character that slowly fades.

Eighteen years marks a milestone in Arran's core range — the oldest age-statement whisky the distillery offers as a standing release.

A combination of cask types that ends in a genuine sherry bomb.

    Expert Description

Arran 18 Year Old is a Single Islands Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a combination of 1st and 2nd fill hogsheads and bourbon casks, bottled at 46%.

After the bulk of its maturation, the whisky is given a finish in 1st fill Oloroso sherry casks, giving it a marked depth and fullness. The result is one of Arran's most popular age-statement releases, bottled non-chill filtered and with natural colour.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Caramelised citrus and tropical fruit meet a backdrop of charred oak.

    Palate

  • Bottle of Arran Single Cask Whisky matured 26 years in sherry cask from Lochranza Distillery
    Item no.: 059763-615-218

Some whiskies only get better with time. This one has waited twenty-six years in a single sherry cask, making it one of the oldest Arran bottlings ever sent to Denmark.

A sherry hogshead, tucked away in the Arran warehouses since the mid-nineties, now drawn straight from the wood.

    Expert Description

Arran 1996/2023 Single Cask Denmark 26 Year Old is a Single Islands Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a sherry hogshead and bottled at 53.3%.

Distilled in August 1996, when the Lochranza distillery was only a year old, the whisky spent a full 26 years in the same sherry cask before being bottled in July 2023, non-chill filtered and with natural colour. Only 258 bottles exist from this cask, and the entire batch is reserved for Denmark – a rare chance to taste what a quarter century on sherry oak does to Arran's bright, fruity house style.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Dark, mature sherry with stewed fruit, walnut and a hint of leather that speaks of the years spent in wood.

    Palate

Rich and deep with raisin, date and dark caramel, held together by a lightly bitter, oak-driven structure.

    Finish

Long and dry, with spiced oak and a final trace of espresso.

Adelphi typically tastes 25 casks to find one good enough for their name. This is the one — a 20-year-old Arran, selected by two of the whisky trade's most respected figures.

Bottled at full cask strength to mark the independent bottler FC Whisky's 20th anniversary.

    Expert Description

Arran 1999/2020 Adelphi Selection 20 Year Old FC Whisky is a Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in cask number 465 and bottled at 52.5%.

The whisky was distilled on 31 December 1999 and bottled on 7 January 2020 by the independent whisky merchant Adelphi Selection, whose manager Alex Bruce and whisky writer Charles MacLean together approve fewer than 4% of the casks they taste. This bottle marks FC Whisky's 20th anniversary, and with only 175 bottles from a single cask, it's a rare chance to taste Arran through one of Scotland's most discerning independent bottlers.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Ripe fruit and honey, with a depth that only comes from two decades of maturation.

    Palate

Rich and layered, where Arran's classic citrus character meets a warm, spiced structure from the cask.

    Item no.: 059763-615-218-1

Eighteen years is a long time, even for a whisky. In a refill sherry cask, this Arran has been allowed to mature at its own pace, without the sherry wood's power ever becoming overwhelming.

Another single cask, selected for Denmark, this time with a more restrained but equally deep sherry character.

    Expert Description

Arran 2006/2024 Single Cask Denmark 18 Year Old is a Single Islands Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a refill Oloroso hogshead and bottled at 53.6%.

Because the cask had already given up most of its initial power to an earlier fill, it draws more gently on the whisky this time — the result is a subtler, but still clear, sherry character layered over Arran's own fruit sweetness. Distilled in April 2006 and bottled in July 2024 after 18 years in wood, the whisky is bottled at cask strength, non-chill filtered and with natural colour. Only 244 bottles exist, all reserved for Denmark.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Sultana raisin, spiced cake and dark chocolate, tied together by a gentle sweetness from the cask.

    Palate

Deep and beguiling with ripe plum, caramelised sugar and a fine spiced warmth.

A "refill" cask has already given up most of its colour and spice to an earlier whisky – which is why the distillery's maturation team typically lets refill casks rest longer, as with this 18-year-old, to reach the same depth as a younger first-fill cask.

On Arran's wild west coast, where the Atlantic hits the cliffs below Lochranza, sits one of Scotland's youngest distilleries with a reputation growing faster than most.

This bottling comes from a single cask, hand-picked and bottled exclusively for the Danish market.

    Expert Description

Arran 2015/2024 Single Cask Denmark 9 Year Old is a Single Islands Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a 1st fill Oloroso hogshead and bottled at 60.2%.

The cask is a 1st fill Oloroso hogshead, meaning the sherry wood had never held whisky before this fill, so the full force of the Spanish oak goes straight into the spirit. Distilled in April 2015 and bottled in July 2024 after nine years of maturation, the whisky is bottled at cask strength, non-chill filtered and with natural colour. Only 326 bottles came from this single cask, and the entire batch is reserved for Denmark.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Fresh citrus peel and spiced ginger meet a gentle sweetness of vanilla and ripe apricot, while the sherry cask lays a deep, dark base underneath it all.

    Palate

Rich and layered with dried fig and raisin, a soft caramel sweetness from the Oloroso wood, and a warm, spiced edge that carries through from first sip to last.

    Finish

Long and warming, closing on a final trace of dark chocolate and oak that softens slowly.

  • Bottle of peated Arran Single Cask Whisky with smoky character from Lochranza Distillery
    Item no.: 0597557-7445

Not every Arran bottling is light and sweet. This one runs the other way — dark, peaty, and richer than most people expect from this distillery.

A single bourbon cask, hand-selected for Denmark, with 50 ppm of peat smoke taking the lead role.

    Expert Description

Arran 2015/2025 Single Cask Denmark 9 Year Old 50 ppm is a Single Islands Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a 1st fill bourbon barrel and bottled at 59.6%.

Arran usually distills a lightly peated or unpeated malt, but this single cask is made from barley peated to a full 50 ppm — double the level of the distillery's standard Machrie Moor. Distilled in October 2015, the whisky spent nine years in a single 1st fill bourbon barrel before being bottled at cask strength, non-chill filtered and with natural colour. Only 246 bottles exist from this cask, all reserved for the Danish market.

Ulrik Bertelsen from Whisky.dk has tasted it and calls it one of the finest peated releases he has met from Arran — a dram where raw power and aromatic depth meet in fine balance.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Rich peat smoke with hints of bonfire and a touch of iodine, but also an underlying sweetness of vanilla and ripe pear that keeps the nose inviting rather than harsh.

    Palate

Softer than expected — baked apple and tropical fruit reach the palate first, before the peat smoke rolls in like a warm wave, carried by the bourbon cask's creamy texture.

    Finish

Long and warming with grilled citrus, white pepper and a dry trace of oak that lingers well after the last sip.

  • Arran Gold bottle, cream liqueur with Single Island Malt Whisky from the Arran distillery
    Item no.: 22227865459-233

Cream and whisky sounds like a shortcut, but it is not when the whisky is actually good. Arran makes its own single malt at Lochranza and uses that rather than anonymous spirit, and you can taste it.

    The Expert's Description

Arran Gold is a cream liqueur made with Single Island Malt Whisky from Arran, bottled at 17%. It is therefore not whisky but a cream-based liqueur in which the distillery’s own malt whisky forms the spirit component.

The difference from an ordinary cream liqueur lies precisely there. Most use neutral spirit or an anonymous blend, while Arran uses malt whisky from its own distillery. That gives a cereal sweetness and a light malt character beneath the toffee and chocolate which would otherwise disappear.

Arran Gold was named World’s Best Whisky Liqueur at Whisky Magazine’s World Whisky Awards in 2007. The distillery sits at Lochranza at the northern end of the Isle of Arran and was founded in 1995.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Toffee and milk chocolate first, with cocoa and a clear cream note. Beneath the sweetness sits a malty cereal note from the whisky, which makes the nose less one-dimensionally sweet than an ordinary cream liqueur.

    Palate

Full and creamy. Caramel, chocolate and vanilla open, then the malt whisky comes through with a light cereal sweetness and a hint of oak. At 17% it is soft and easy to drink, but not thin.

    Finish

Medium and creamy, with cocoa and a final malt note lingering after the sweetness.

The Arran distillery at Lochranza was founded in 1995 and was the first legal distillery on the island in over a century and a half. Arran otherwise had a long history of illicit distilling, since the island’s remote bays were well suited to keeping the excise at arm’s length. Today the family also runs a second distillery, Lagg, at the southern end of the island.

Arran's peated side also comes with a fixed age statement — ten years in cask gives Machrie Moor an extra layer of flavour.

The same peaty character as the distillery's classic Machrie Moor, but now with time to round off the edges.

    Expert Description

Arran Machrie Moor 10 Year Old is a Single Islands Malt Whisky made from lightly peated malt and bottled at 46%.

The whisky is bottled non-chill filtered and with natural colour after ten years of maturation, giving the peat smoke time to blend more smoothly with Arran's natural fruit sweetness than in the younger, no-age-statement Machrie Moor.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Softer smoke than the younger edition, with a clear underlying fruitiness.

    Palate

    Item no.: 22227865466-100206

On Arran's west coast lies a windswept peat moor called Machrie Moor. Legend says the warrior Fingal tied his dog to a stone here — and the distillery named its peated whisky after the place.

A different side of Arran, where the familiar citrus character meets peat smoke.

    Expert Description

Arran Machrie Moor is a Single Islands Malt Scotch Whisky made from lightly peated malt and bottled at 56.2%.

Since 2004, Arran has distilled a small amount of malt peated to around 20 ppm every year — a medium smoke level that offers more than just bonfire and tar. Machrie Moor has become a permanent part of Arran's range, bottled at cask strength, non-chill filtered and with natural colour, put together by the distillery's manager James MacTaggart.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Peat smoke and ash meet an underlying sweetness and a lightly salted coastal aroma.

Smaller casks mean more contact between whisky and wood — and The Bothy is Arran's proof of how fast that contact can leave its mark.

A full-bodied, oily whisky with an extra push from Quarter Cask maturation.

    Expert Description

Arran Quarter Cask The Bothy is a Single Islands Malt Whisky matured in 1st fill bourbon casks and finished in Quarter Casks, bottled at 56.2%.

The whisky spends around eight years in 1st fill bourbon casks before moving to 100-litre Quarter Casks for about 18 months. The smaller casks give markedly more contact between whisky and wood than standard casks, speeding up maturation and delivering a more intense character in less time.

    Tasting Notes

Vanilla sweetness and freshly ground pepper in a full-bodied, oily aroma.

The cask size gives more contact between whisky and wood than a standard cask, speeding up maturation and explaining why a relatively young whisky like this one still achieves a clear sherry character. The whisky is bottled non-chill filtered and with natural colour.

  • Auchroisk 16 year old Deerstalker Limited Release bottle, Single Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197278540

Sixteen years in a single bourbon hogshead is a long, quiet exercise. Nothing dramatic happens along the way. The cask works slowly, and the result is a whisky where time has been spent rather than technique applied.

    The Expert's Description

Auchroisk 16 Years Old Deerstalker Limited Release is a Single Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky matured in an ex-bourbon hogshead and bottled at 48%. Cask 16377 gave 318 bottles in Deerstalker’s range of single cask releases.

A hogshead holds around 250 litres and therefore sits between a bourbon barrel and a sherry butt. The wood contact per litre is great enough to give clear cask character over sixteen years, but not so great that the whisky turns overly woody.

Auchroisk was built in 1974 to supply malt for the J&B blend, and official bottlings exist essentially only in Diageo’s Flora & Fauna range. Single casks like this one are therefore the main route to meeting the distillery at a higher strength.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Creamy and sweet, with vanilla and ripe pear first. Toasted nuts and a lightly spiced oak note sit behind, along with a fine honeyed sweetness that sixteen years have drawn out.

    Palate

Creamy sweetness from the first sip, followed by a lightly oily, spiced flavour. There is vanilla, apple and a dry nutty note, and at 48% the body is good without the whisky turning heavy.

    Finish

Long and spiced. Oak, honey and a dry close where the nuts linger longest.

If you see small dark flakes at the bottom of the bottle, they are there on purpose. Blackadder does not filter Raw Cask at all, not even for the wood residue from the cask.

    The Expert's Description

Auchroisk 2009/2021 Blackadder Raw Cask 11 Years Old is a Single Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky from a single cask, bottled at cask strength, 56.3%. The whisky is neither chill filtered nor coloured, and it has not been filtered for cask residue either.

Raw Cask is Blackadder’s most uncompromising range. The whisky goes straight from the cask into the bottle, and the char and wood residue that come with it stay put. That gives extra depth of flavour and a visible sediment in the bottle.

Auchroisk was built in 1974 to supply malt for the J&B blend. The bright, citrus-driven style is allowed to stand at full strength here, where the concentration brings out both fruit and oak.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Powerful and concentrated. Vanilla, apple and a clear oak note first, then honey, citrus and a dry, lightly resinous note from the cask residue.

    Palate

Full and intense. Vanilla and honey open, then spiced oak, citrus and black pepper arrive. At 56.3% there is real strength, and the whisky changes markedly with a few drops of water.

    Item no.: 059763-615-1064

Rivesaltes is a southern French fortified wine from Roussillon that few people know and even fewer have seen in a whisky cask. That is exactly the kind of find Lady of the Glen has made their signature.

    The Expert's Description

Auchroisk 2012/2024 Lady of the Glen 11 Years Old is a Single Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky finished in a Rivesaltes cask and bottled at cask strength, 59.2%. Cask no. 802860 gave 283 bottles, and the whisky is neither chill filtered nor coloured.

Rivesaltes is made in Roussillon by adding alcohol during fermentation so that some of the grape sugar remains. That type of cask gives raisins, walnut and a dry oxidised note that sits closer to an old sherry than to ordinary red wine.

At 59.2% there is strength enough to carry both the finish and the spirit’s own fruit. Auchroisk was built in 1974 to supply malt for the J&B blend, and the lightness of the spirit leaves room for the fortified wine cask’s character.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Raisins and dried apricot first, with a clear walnut note. Vanilla and apple from the base maturation sit beneath, and there is a dry, lightly oxidised note from the wine cask.

    Palate

100 proof is British measurement from the days when alcohol was tested by pouring in gunpowder and seeing whether it would still ignite. The threshold sat at 57.1%, and that figure is still a marker.

    The Expert's Description

Aultmore 17 Years Old Signatory 100 Proof Exceptional Cask Edition #1 is a Single Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a 1st fill Oloroso sherry cask and bottled at 57.1%. It is neither chill filtered nor coloured.

Signatory’s 100 Proof range is deliberately bottled at exactly 57.1%, the historic British proof point. It is not cask strength but a fixed, high strength, and the house selects casks whose profile can carry it.

Aultmore’s fresh, grassy Speyside style has been laid into an active sherry cask here, which gives a markedly different expression from the bourbon matured bottlings. The distillery was built in 1896, and almost all production otherwise goes into Dewar’s White Label.

    Tasting Notes

    Item no.: 059763-615-130

Aultmore is one of those distilleries you rarely see on a label. Almost everything goes into Dewar’s White Label, and the casks that do escape typically end up with independent bottlers like this one.

    The Expert's Description

Aultmore 2008/2022 Mossburn 14 Years Old is a Single Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky matured for fourteen years in an Oloroso sherry hogshead and bottled at 52.6%. The cask gave 328 bottles, and the whisky is neither chill filtered nor coloured.

A hogshead holds around 250 litres, and when it has been filled with Oloroso it gives dried fruit, nuts and spice. Fourteen years is enough for the cask to lay on a clear layer, but not so long that the spirit disappears.

Aultmore’s fresh, grassy style provides good counterweight to the sherry. The distillery was built in 1896 by Alexander Edward, and since John Dewar & Sons bought it in 1923, by far the greater part of production has gone into their blends.

Sherry and fruit in balance. Raisins and orange peel first, then walnut, honey and a fresh apple note from the spirit. A dry spiced oak note sits at the bottom.

    Palate

Full and spiced. Dried fruit and sherry sweetness open, then nuts, cinnamon and black pepper arrive. At 52.6% there is good weight, and Aultmore’s freshness keeps the whisky from turning heavy.

    Finish

Long and dry. Dark fruit, nuts and spiced oak that let go slowly.

    Did You Know?

Mossburn Distillers started as a bottler in 2015 and simultaneously built Torabhaig on the Isle of Skye, Skye’s first new distillery in over two hundred years. The Vintage Casks range is the house’s numbered series of single casks, and the number on the label tells you where in the sequence the release sits.

  • Balvenie 14 The Week of Peat Speyside Single Malt Whisky bottle
    Item no.: 22227865428-2031

One week a year Balvenie changes track. The peat comes in, the malting floors smell like nothing else all season, and the distillery makes a whisky it otherwise does not make. The rest of the year it waits in cask.

    The expert's description

Balvenie 14 The Week of Peat is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky matured in American oak casks and bottled at 48.3 %.

Each year the distillery sets aside roughly a week to run peated malt through production. The smoke comes from Scottish peat, and the malt sits at around 30 ppm phenols, which is striking for Speyside but mild next to the heaviest Islay bottlings. The whisky from that week is matured separately and released on its own.

Fourteen years in American oak lets the smoke settle down. It turns softer, more integrated, and lies as a layer beneath the familiar Balvenie honey sweetness rather than sitting on top of it. The release belongs to The Balvenie Stories series.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Soft peat smoke, flower honey and vanilla. Behind it sits buttery cake and a hint of sweet malt.

    Palate

Round and balanced with light smoke, citrus, spice and sweet malt. The smoke lies underneath rather than leading the way.

    Finish

Long and warm with a spiced close and a last, dry note of smoke.

    Did you know?

Balvenie sourced the peat for the first Week of Peat batches from St Fergus in Aberdeenshire. That is the same area supplying several Speyside distilleries, and it gives a drier, earthier smoke than the maritime peat on Islay.

    Item no.: 22227865-888

Batch 036 — another chapter in Barrell Craft Spirits' ongoing story of blending the best from multiple distilleries.

    Expert description

Barrell Craft Spirits Bourbon Whiskey 7.5 Year Batch 036 is a blend of selected bourbons aged 7.5 years, bottled at cask strength, 57.2%. Barrell Craft Spirits was founded in 2013 by Joe Beatrice, who, unlike most American whiskey brands, didn't start by building his own distillery. Instead, he and his team sought out extraordinary casks from more than 65 different producers around the world, which are then brought back to Kentucky for careful maturation and blending. The approach is inspired by Scotland's long tradition of independent bottlers and has changed the perception of what 'blending' can mean in American whiskey.

  • Ben Nevis 2011 Hepburn's Choice 11 years Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
    Item no.: 059763-615-927

A sherry butt holds around five hundred litres, twice what an ordinary cask carries. That means less wood surface per drop and a slower, more measured maturation. Eleven years does not sound like much, but in a butt they count differently.

    The expert's description

Ben Nevis 2011/2023 Hepburn's Choice 11 years is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a sherry butt and bottled at 46 % without chill filtration and without added colour.

The cask was filled in 2011 and drawn in 2023, yielding 880 bottles. That is a high outturn, but it follows from a cask of that size, and it also means the bottling actually reached an audience rather than vanishing within a week.

Hepburn's Choice is a range from Hunter Laing, the family firm behind Ardnahoe on Islay among others. The range consists purely of single casks bottled at 46 % without filtration or colouring, and it is intended as the honest working series of the house rather than as prestige releases.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dried fig, walnut and a dry sherry note. Behind it sit malt and a suggestion of orange peel.

    Palate

Full and dry with raisin, cocoa and spiced oak. The Ben Nevis weight keeps the sherry in check rather than giving way to it.

    Finish

Long and dry with nut, dark chocolate and a warm note of spice.

Medium. The bottling comes from one cask and cannot be remade, but the 880 bottles make it less scarce than most single casks. The Hunter Laing ranges hold a steady position among collectors of independent bottlings.

    Did you know?

Hunter Laing was split off from Douglas Laing in 2013, when brothers Stewart and Fred Laing divided the family firm between them. Stewart took the single cask stocks with him and later built Ardnahoe on Islay.
