  • Bottle of Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2012 from eight Islay farms
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280403

Eight farms, one island, one whisky. Islay Barley 2012 brings together grain from across the west and centre of Islay in a single unpeated malt, letting eight years give the grain's own character room to unfold.

    Expert description

Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2012 is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, matured for 8 years and bottled at 50%.

The barley comes from eight different farms across the west and centre of Islay, combined into a single unpeated release. The whisky is matured in a combination of American whiskey casks and French wine casks, together giving a full yet still fresh character.

Distilled in 2012 and matured for eight years, it shows how Bruichladdich lets barley from several farms meet in the same bottle without losing its local, earthy identity.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh barley and apple juice, with a sweet vanilla note from the bourbon casks and a hint of grape from the wine casks.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280404

Another vintage, same philosophy. Islay Barley 2013 continues Bruichladdich's work of combining grain from several Islay farms into one unpeated bottle, this time with a year more behind it than the 2012 release.

    Expert description

Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2013 is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, matured for 8 years and bottled at 50%.

Like its 2012 predecessor, this release is built on barley from eight different farms across the west and centre of Islay. The whisky is matured in a combination of American whiskey casks and French wine casks.

Distilled in 2013 and matured for eight years, it offers a slightly different balance than the 2012 release, shaped by that specific vintage's weather and harvest.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Sweet grain and ripe apples, with a light nutty note and a hint of grape from the wine casks.

    Palate

Soft and malty with honey, citrus fruit and a gentle spiciness that builds slowly.

    Item no.: 222233-8554

Burnside 14 Year – Woodrow’s of Edinburgh Single Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky 70 cl 52% (Cask #900019)

This bottling from Woodrow’s of Edinburgh is an exclusive single cask expression from an undisclosed Speyside distillery, bottled at cask strength and without compromise – natural color, non-chillfiltered, and with only 330 bottles available. As a single cask release, this is a unique whisky that stands apart from the standard bottlings of the larger distilleries. It represents Woodrow’s philosophy of highlighting the individuality of each cask and delivering whiskies with character and authenticity. With only 330 bottles produced, this is a rare opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts seeking an honest and unfiltered Speyside expression – with Balvenie as the hidden core.

Note: Burnside is the designation for so-called “teaspooned Balvenie” – meaning a cask from the Balvenie distillery has had a tiny amount of spirit from another distillery (typically Glenfiddich) added to it. This practice prevents the whisky from being marketed as an official single malt from Balvenie, though it still clearly carries Balvenie’s character.

  • Caol Ila 12 Years Old Version 1 litre older bottle design with yellow banderole
    Item no.: 2265462-555

The yellow banderole. The older design. A litre of Caol Ila 12 Years from the time before the redesign settled in. For those who remember the original bottle shape – and for those who simply want more Caol Ila per bottle than the standard 70 cl.

    Expert's description

Caol Ila 12 Years Old Version (1 litre) is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky bottled by Diageo at 43% in an older bottle design with a yellow banderole.

Caol Ila 12 Years is the distillery's flagship and the backbone of many blended whiskies – including Johnnie Walker. The official 12 Years is bottled at 43% and gives an accessible, fresh and maritimely peated introduction to the distillery's character.

This 1-litre version in the older design is now discontinued – replaced by the modernised design. The contents are unchanged: classic Caol Ila with light, fresh peat smoke, fruity sweetness and maritime saltiness.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh and clean. Citrus, seaweed and light peat smoke that is more Islay-nudge than decisively heavy. A touch of sweetness and a little fresh oak.

    Palate

Light and fruity. Lemon, green apples and vanilla with Caol Ila's characteristic fresh and maritime smoke. A whisky that is more drinkable than its peated origins might suggest.

    Finish

Relatively short and fresh. Smoke and citrus with a light, salty trace.

  • Caol Ila 12 Years 1 litre OLD VERSION bottle with yellow banderole from the 1990s
    Item no.: 22227865462-54

The sound between Islay and Jura lies like a ribbon of cold grey water, and right there – facing the current – stands Caol Ila looking across towards Jura's peaks. This is where the smoke comes from: not the heavy, tarry south-island smoke, but something lighter, saltier, more maritime. This bottle is an older release from the 1990s: one litre with a yellow banderole.

    Expert's description

Caol Ila 12 Years 1 litre OLD VERSION is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky bottled at 43% – a rare older version in a litre bottle with a yellow banderole from the 1990s.

Caol Ila has produced a 12-year expression under changing owners since the 1970s, and the litre format was for many years part of the classic duty and export bottlings. This version with the yellow banderole is discontinued and carries a design from an era nothing like the current Caol Ila bottle.

The distillery sits at Port Askaig on Islay's north-east coast. It was demolished and rebuilt from scratch in 1972, with production resuming in 1974. Malt comes from Port Ellen Maltings at around 30-35 ppm. Maturation is primarily in refill ex-bourbon casks, giving the light colour and clean, fresh character.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh and maritime. Lemon peel and green apple first, then a breath of soft peat smoke, seaweed and a hint of almond oil. Freshly cut grass and a faint sweetness in the background.

    Palate

Good oily texture. Elegant smoke, tar and boiled sweets with citrus zest and a salted, briny edge. Pepper and a lightly medicinal note recalling Islay's heritage.

    Finish

Long and peppery. The smoke becomes more ashy towards the end, with lemon, lime and a soft sweetness settling in.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197278508

Nine years is enough time to let peat smoke settle in. Hepburns Choice matured this Caol Ila in bourbon casks and finished it in a sherry butt – the classic double maturation, a reminder that it is the combination of time and wood that shapes a whisky.

    Expert's description

Caol Ila 2010/2020 Hepburns Choice 9 Years is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in bourbon casks with a sherry butt finish, bottled at 46% without chill filtration and with natural colour. 797 bottles.

Hepburns Choice is a series from Langside Distillers – a Scottish independent bottler specialising in single-cask bottlings from a wide range of distilleries. The series is named after the Scottish whisky enthusiast and writer Hepburn.

The bourbon cask provided the structural base – vanilla and fresh fruit – and the sherry butt added the winey layer on top: raisins, honey and spice. Caol Ila's smoke binds it all together.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

A soft opening with bourbon sweetness and light sherry fruit, behind which Caol Ila's salty smoke and seaweed wait. Raisins and a hint of cloves.

    Palate

Soft and balanced. Bourbon vanilla and sherry fruit meet peat smoke and a touch of salt. Good body and light preserved-fruit notes from the finish.

    Finish

Medium-length with persistent smoke and a sweet sherry close that slowly fades.

A sherry butt is the largest standard cask in Scotch whisky tradition, holding around 500 litres against a standard bourbon hogshead's 250. The larger cask gives a slower and more subtle influence, which is why sherry butts are used for finishing.

    Item no.: 222355-9005

Bottled on 12 February 2026 – almost to the day fourteen years after distillation in April 2012. Little Brown Dog chose a refill butt for this batch: the largest standard cask, previously used, working slowly and leaving its subtle signature on the distillate.

    Expert's description

Caol Ila 2012/2026 Little Brown Dog Spirits 13 Years is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a single refill butt cask, bottled at 55.7% without chill filtration and with natural colour.

Little Brown Dog is a British independent bottler with a single-cask focus. For this batch they chose a refill butt – a 500-litre cask that has already matured whisky and retained a discreet, oxidised wood influence. That is where the 'wonderfully oxidised' character described by tasters comes from.

The result is a whisky with classic Caol Ila freshness and salty maritime peat smoke, wrapped in a lightly oxidised, nutty-complex structure. Wax candle, driftwood bonfire and sea urchin are tasting descriptions that reflect a product of precise, controlled craft.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Wax candle and a driftwood bonfire on the beach – fresh and light with clear Islay smoke. Toasted grain, a touch of seaweed and a soft, oxidised depth.

    Palate

Toasted almonds and sea urchin – umami-rich and salty with smoke and a 'dirty martini' oily character. Complex but harmonious and easy to drink.

    Finish

Fresh and lively: gorse, clear saltiness and maritime peat smoke that stays light and elegant throughout.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197278432

Most people associate Caol Ila with bourbon or sherry. Lady of the Glen chose an ex-white wine cask – and it turns out Islay smoke handles itself surprisingly well alongside the light, fresh wine residue. 307 bottles from cask no. 311196.

    Expert's description

Caol Ila 2012/2021 Lady of the Glen 9 Years is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a single ex-white wine cask (no. 311196), bottled at cask strength 58.3% without chill filtration and with natural colour.

Lady of the Glen is an Edinburgh-based independent bottler founded by Gregor Hannah. The philosophy is single cask, cask strength and no compromises. White wine casks are unusual in whisky – lighter and fresher than sherry casks, they add a delicate fruitiness rather than vinous weight.

Nine years in a white wine cask from 2012 gives a Caol Ila that keeps its maritime smoke but adds an unexpected freshness and fruitiness. 307 bottles is all that exists.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh and surprising – light citrus fruit and white flowers meet Caol Ila's salty smoke. A clear contrast between the heavy distillate and the light cask.

    Palate

Smoke and freshness in balance. Citrus, fresh pear and maritime notes with good body. The white wine cask gives unexpected lightness without removing Caol Ila's signature.

    Finish

Medium-length with fresh smoke and a clean, lightly winey note at the end. Cleaner and lighter than most Caol Ila bottlings.

    Item no.: 2222-888742

Cask 319952 leaked. Lady of the Glen discovered that when they opened the bonded warehouse in 2025 – this refill hogshead with Caol Ila from 2013 had lost a significant portion of its content to the Scottish angels. What remained was 123 bottles and the concentrated essence of eleven Islay years.

    Expert's description

Caol Ila 2013/2025 Lady of the Glen 11 Years is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a single cask – refill hogshead (cask no. 319952) – bottled at 56.6% without chill filtration and with natural colour. 123 bottles.

Lady of the Glen is a Scottish independent bottler focusing on single-cask bottlings from carefully selected casks. The philosophy is simple: selection, not production. Each cask is assessed on its own merits, which is reflected in the small number of bottles per bottling.

A leaking cask is not a mistake – it is geology. The wood breathes, the surroundings pull, and the angels' share is never precisely predictable. The 123 remaining bottles are what it took eleven years and a particular piece of Islay air to produce.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh peat smoke and seaweed, behind which a soft vanilla and citrus from the refill cask. A hint of green apple and toasted oak.

    Palate

Oily and full. Salted caramel, lemon and smoke in good harmony. The distillate's power at 56.6% gives body and depth – a drop of water opens it further.

    Finish

Long and persistent – ash, freshly ground pepper and citrus peel that slowly fade to a lightly salted close.

The angels' share – what evaporates through the cask's pores – typically amounts to 2-4% of the cask's contents per year in Scotland. Over eleven years, a leaking cask can lose far more. Cask 319952 was one such – and the 123 bottles are the result.

  • Caol Ila 2014 2022 Murray McDavid 8 Years Benchmark Pauillac wine cask Bordeaux bottle
    Item no.: 22227865480-67093-0092

Pauillac is Bordeaux at its finest – Lafite, Mouton, Latour. When casks from one of the world's most celebrated wine regions meet Caol Ila's Islay smoke, something unexpected happens: the powerful wine residue in the wood gives a peaty and fruity note rarely found at the distillery.

    Expert's description

Caol Ila 2014/2022 Murray McDavid 8 Years Benchmark Series is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in Pauillac wine casks, bottled at 50% without chill filtration and with natural colour. 1,399 bottles.

Pauillac casks come from the Pauillac wine district in Bordeaux – home to Chateau Lafite Rothschild, Mouton Rothschild and Latour. The casks are laden with red Bordeaux wine and add tannin-rich, fruity and slightly earthy notes to spirits that have rested in them.

Murray McDavid's Benchmark Series puts the distillate's character at the centre and finds casks that lift it without overpowering it. Eight years and 50% in Pauillac casks give a Caol Ila with an unexpected winey depth.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Smoke and dark fruit – blueberry and cherry from the wine cask, with Caol Ila's salty maritime smoke in the background. A hint of earth and tannins.

    Palate

Smoke and wine sweetness in good balance. Dark berry fruit, salt and a touch of Bordeaux tannins. Good body at 50%.

    Finish

Peat and fruit alternate in a medium-length finish with a light, dried fruit note at the end.

  • Caol Ila 9 Years Dram Mor French Oak Oloroso Hogshead cask strength bottle
    Item no.: 22227865480-67093-0235dmci

Dram Mor chose a French oak Oloroso hogshead for their Caol Ila – and that is not obvious. Scotch whisky is traditionally matured in American oak. French oak is denser, more spiced and contributes differently to the aroma profile than its American counterpart.

    Expert's description

Caol Ila 9 Years Dram Mor is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky finished in a French oak Oloroso hogshead, bottled at 55.2%. 288 bottles.

Dram Mor is an independent bottler specialising in single-cask bottlings with a focus on unusual cask combinations. The name is Gaelic for 'big dram'. French oak's denser structure gives more spice – cinnamon, cloves and a spicy dryness – combined with Oloroso sherry's fruitiness.

The existing tasting panel describes the whisky as 'sublime' with salted caramel, cigar smoke and stone fruits on the nose, and a massive, long-lasting finish. 288 bottles were bottled.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Salted caramel and cigar smoke from the French oak meet Caol Ila's peat smoke and stone fruit. A complex and fascinating combination.

    Palate

Intense and layered. Salted caramel, Oloroso sweetness and a depth of smoke and spice from the French oak. For those who want everything at once.

    Finish

Massive and persistent. Smoke, fruit sweetness and spices hold without weakening for a long time – the kind of finish that rewards patience.

Càrn Mòr Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a series where the character of each distillery and each individual cask is allowed to shine through. The range consists exclusively of Single Batch or Single Cask releases, and once a bottling is sold out, it does not return.

Clynelish 2014 Carn Mor 11 Year Old is a classic independent bottling where the distillery’s waxy, maritime and lightly spiced style is presented in its purest form. Carn Mor is known for selecting casks that highlight the natural character of the spirit, and here you get a young, energetic and unmistakably Clynelish‑driven whisky bottled at 52.4%.

The flavour profile is fresh and fruity with the well‑known waxy mouthfeel Clynelish is famous for. Expect citrus, green apples, light tropical fruit and a mineral edge that works together with a gentle salty note. There is also a subtle spicy warmth and a touch of vanilla and malt rounding out the experience.

On the nose you typically find wax, lemon oil, ripe pears and a light floral note. The palate is creamy and lively with citrus, honey, malt, wax and a lightly peppery finish. The aftertaste is medium in length with dry mineral notes, sweet malt and a clean, fresh finish.

A beautiful 11‑year‑old Clynelish that showcases the distillery’s DNA without heavy cask influence – clean, waxy, fruity and elegant with plenty of energy from the cask strength.

  • Cragganmore 12 year old 1 litre OLD VERSION single speyside malt whisky 40%
    Item no.: 22227865428-20
An old warehouse in Ballindalloch. Steam rising from short, flat-topped pot stills, water drawn from the Craggan burn, and a bottle that has been waiting since the 1990s. This is Speyside the way it was once bottled — in the big litre format with the yellow capsule band.

Expert description of Cragganmore 12 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Cragganmore 12 Year Old is the distillery's core expression and Speyside's representative in Diageo's Classic Malts series. This is an older bottling from the 1990s in the now-discontinued litre bottle with the yellow band — a design collectors recognise and seek out. The whisky itself comes from Cragganmore, founded in 1869 by John Smith in the village of Ballindalloch in the heart of Speyside.

What sets Cragganmore apart lies in the distillation. The pot stills have an unusual flat-topped shape with a short neck, and that helps give the spirit its complex, full-bodied character. The water is drawn from the mineral-rich Craggan burn right beside the distillery, and fermentation runs slowly in traditional wash backs made of larch. Cragganmore has a reputation as one of the most complex single malts in all of Speyside.

The classic 12 Year Old matures in ex-bourbon casks, which keeps the oak in check and lets the distillery's own nutty, malty style come forward rather than heavy vanilla and spicy wood. The result is a balanced, finely woven dram that has been Cragganmore's calling card for decades — and which served as the soft malt backbone in blends such as Johnnie Walker and Old Parr.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Clean and inviting. Citrus on the opening — orange and lemon peel — followed by soft caramel, roasted almonds and malted biscuits. A discreet floral note sits underneath.

    Palate

Fresh and malt-driven at the same time. Fresh citrus continues, joined by sweet toffee, malt and oat biscuits. Nutty and rounded with a light, clean texture.

    Finish

Gentle and malty, fading softly with a faint spicy warmth and a touch of dried fruit.

    Expert's Description

Croftengea 2016/2024 Jamaican Rum Cask is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in American oak with a rum finish and bottled at 53%.
