Fary Lochan Port & Peat Batch 02 is a Danish single malt whisky that beautifully unites the sweetness of port wine with gentle peat smoke in a deep and characterful expression. The whisky is distilled from unpeated Danish barley malt, yet it gains its smoky profile from maturation in used Islay casks, creating an intriguing contrast between Danish purity and Scottish tradition. It has matured for a total of seven years and two months, beginning with one year and ten months in two 2nd fill ex‑Islay bourbon quarter casks, followed by five years and four months in a 1st fill port wine cask. This combination of small, smoke‑influenced bourbon casks and a large port cask gives the whisky both structure and depth, along with a pronounced dark fruit sweetness. Bottled at 54.3 percent, it delivers a powerful yet harmonious experience in the glass.

The aroma opens with mild smoke, dark blackberries, prunes and a hint of vanilla from the cask. On the palate, the balance between sweetness and smoke continues, with pipe tobacco, dark chocolate, ripe blackberries and subtle attic‑like notes unfolding gradually. The finish is long, calm and elegant, with gentle smoke and tobacco lingering softly and leaving a pleasant warmth. This is a whisky where two worlds meet: the deep fruitiness of port wine and the smoky edge of an Islay cask. The result is an intense and nuanced flavour profile with notes of blackberries, prunes, liquorice, dark chocolate, pipe tobacco, vanilla and a touch of sea salt that adds an extra layer of complexity.

Aged for 6 years and 8 months, this whisky has matured in two 1st fill bourbon casks, one 2nd fill Oloroso sherry cask, and one 2nd fill PX sherry cask – a combination that delivers depth and complexity.

The spirit is made from Danish barley malt smoked over fresh nettles, giving it a mild, green and herbal smoke profile that’s unique to Fary Lochan. Bottled at 50.3% ABV and non-chill filtered, it retains its natural oils and full-bodied texture. Only 227 bottles have been released – a true small batch experience.

The flavour profile offers rich, oily sweetness from the sherry casks, balanced by notes of vanilla, dried fruit, malt, caramel and cane sugar. The smoke is subtle and elegant with a green touch, adding a distinctive signature. The finish is soft, rounded and pleasantly lingering.

Previous releases in the Smoke & Sherry series have earned high praise – including gold at The Fifty Best in New York – and sold out in record time. The independent bottler Little Brown Dog acquires casks from distilleries across Scotland and bottles them under their own brand – all bottles are adorned with the company’s distinctive little brown dog. Here, they have sourced a cask from the new Glen Wyvis Distillery.

Little Brown Dog writes:
We don't often get the chance to explore warehouses freely, and there’s a good reason for that. However, it seems the Glenwyvis team didn’t get the memo. On a day spent in their incredibly packed dunnage warehouse, after sampling many excellent casks, we found a truly outstanding one. This cask is remarkable as it is the first Madeira cask they have ever filled, making it a significant part of this young distillery’s history. We believe this cask pairs wonderfully with their spirit, and it’s likely that Madeira casks will become an important part of Glenwyvis’s identity in the future.

Interestingly, this cask was also one of the least accessible in the entire warehouse, so we’re quite pleased with our find. The whisky is characterized by a color reminiscent of strawberry wine. Glenallachie 15 Years is another masterpiece from Billy Walkers hand.
When he took over the distillery in 2017, he faced a huge task of creating a core orange that would show both Walkers influence, but also the DNA of the distillery. He's certainly succeeded with the Glenallachie 15 year old. It has an incredibly beautiful and deep reddish-brown color, which has a glow similar to that of a sunset on a late summer evening.

The nose has notes of butterscotch, Christmas spice and raisin. On the palate, the familiar sherry sweetness emerges and enchants with notes of the same Christmas spices we found in the nose, but also banana, orange peel, and dark slightly bitter chocolate. A worthy and powerful dram.
