Belize - our Rum blogger Allan Bjerreskov reviews

Rum blogger Allan Bjerreskov dives into Belize for an exciting review.

Belize
We continue with more molasses-based column distilled rum from Central America. This time from Travelers Distillery in Belize - but with the twist that the rum is aged continentally in a PX sherry cask for eight years before being bottled at 60%.

Aroma: The sherry cask is not as evident in the aroma as I expected. It can only be sensed once the rum has had some air. Instead, I am greeted with a scent that is markedly characterized by orange peel. Then raisin and chocolate. I am reminded of Grand Marnier.

Taste: Here the sweetness is more pronounced and the sherry cask comes into its own. However, there are still the typical Central American notes of caramel, chocolate and roasted coffee beans - the latter especially in the aftertaste. An easy-drinking glass with plenty of kick.
