RDL Collectors Series - our Rum Blogger Allan Bjerreskov reviews

RDL Collectors Series - our Rum Blogger Allan Bjerreskov reviews

Rum blogger Allan Bjerreskov dives into the RDL Collectors Series and comes up with an exciting review.

Post by Allan Bjerreskov

Expensive rum is not necessarily the best rum. And according to Danish RomDeLuxe, their Collectors series includes bottlings where you get top-shelf quality rum at reasonable prices. I've stuck my nose and tongue into six of the bottles from the series to test if they're right.

As the global rum market grows, there are collectors willing to pay top dollar for the rarest bottlings. Caroni For example, cask strength rums with more than 30 years of aging and Velier's black bottles are some of the things that can make collectors more or less uncritically break the piggy bank in pursuit of one of the hyped bottles. Here in Denmark, Danish Romdeluxe with their Wild Series also has a number of bottlings that are mostly aimed at collectors and nerds, where several of them have been snatched up in minutes and subsequently sold at very high prices on the secondary market. But if you're buying rum to drink and not as an investment, Romdeuxe claims that the bottles in their Collectors series are fully on par with the coveted Wild Series bottlings. The best bottlings (usually) end up in the Collectors Series if they are either no more than 30 years old or have an alcoholic strength above 60%.
I've taken on the tough task of tasting six of the bottles from the series to give you my opinion on whether they can compete with the best on the market.

Conclusion
In addition to these six bottles, I have also tasted a large number of bottlings from the Wild Series, which Romdeluxe claims the Collectors Series can live up to. I don't quite think it can. You get more power and more extreme flavors in the Wild Series. But I have enjoyed all six glasses in this test. And they are also somewhat cheaper than the Wild Series, so it's fair to say that this is where you get the best value for money. Whether you want to fork out the extra cash for the most extreme expressions and collector's value is up to you. If you just want good rum without worrying about paying the electricity bill, the Collectors series has a lot to offer.
